    sorry for the typo. lol.

I know i bashed windows 8 to a pulp on these message boards, but I have to say when credit is due, it is due. other then some bugs here and there, which to be expected running a beta version, I really am enjoying windows 10. My laptop boots up quicker. I think it has something to do with how windows 7 operated with my usb 4TB external hard drive. for whatever reason it was , when it was plugged in during windows 7 bootup , i would see the light go on showing windows was accessing it as windows loaded up and it added around 12 seconds to boot up time. I proved this over and over by removing it and booting it up without it ect.

With windows 10 so far, I see it being accessed, but it doesn't slow down the boot up process. I have no idea why. I didn't change anything and no drivers were updated other then whatever windows 10 put in.

I also love just being able to type in a 4 digit code to log in instead of a log ass password. All in all the computer just feels snappy. If anyone is having problems with HWINFO and their fans email me and I will walk you through how i not only got it to work, but have it so its the first thing running when windows starts.

Im still trying to figure things out, i really dont use the tile feature which kinda lokks like windows 8 and xbox . however my laptop connected to my xbox one effortlessly. I haven't figured out how to stream games yet though to my PC. if anyoen knows how please let me know, that is a awesome feature. Im pretty sure it maybe just not available yet, but you cna log lin and your buddy lists, achievements ect. all are there which in my opinion was very smart move on microsofts part.

now I just need to figure out how to overclock my processor. im running it at 39 x 4. intel XTU doesn't load on start up now, just as Mr. fox advised me to stop and i have downloaded both versions of throttle stop. I'm hoping someone could post a updated overclock thread using xtu , hwinfo, and throttlestop, since they all have new options. Also when overclocking are we supposed to turn off overclocking in the bios? its all confusing and the original step by step walk throughs were great . i myself dont need 43 x 4, i want 41 x 4 and id be happy as hell. anyway.enough rambling.

Anyone like , dislike windows 10? anyone having issues with your 18 components since dell isn't updtating any of our drivers.

I suspect you'll have a lot more input on this thread on July 29th or 30th when everyone gets that 'free' upgrade.

Why the inverted commas over the word "free"?

I've been pleased with the technical previews but it's probably not worth dwelling on it too much until the final release. I was a big fan of Windows 8 - Admittedly I didn't use any of the Metro apps and had it booting directly to the desktop. Apart from some pointless preference panels that were accessed through the charms bar (Which could have been better placed in the control panel IMO) it worked as well as Windows 7. Instead of hitting the Windows key and opening up the start menu, it jumped to the tile page where I'd pinned all my most frequently used apps and shortcuts - prefered this to the start menu by a long shot so I'm hoping there's a way to get this back in '10.

Just a couple of articles I've read and the fact that I don't believe that anything marketed as 'free' truly is free. Just being a Negative Nancy. :D

It will be very interesting to see where Microsoft will go from here - I mean they are an OS manufacturer and yet they seem to be dishing it out to everybody for free. I wondered whether they might follows OS X with the way they push free updates and major system releases for free via an app store but that does beg the question of where their revenue will come from.

As for reading articles of cynicism - check out David Icke for some fruitcake "Whaaaaaat... No, seriously?!" nonsensically quirky articles.

As long as there is ample driver support and the OS doesn't blatantly gimp up gaming performance, I'll more than likely bite on the free upgrade to Windows 10. Not before watching the forums for about 6 months first to see what the early adopters think of it.

It seemed to me that that majority hated Vista and Windows 8, so if every other release is a good one, Windows 10 might be alright.

I don't know where they will recover the lost revenue from offering the OS for free, but they'll get it somewhere, I guarantee that.

I wrote this on your post just incase you didn't see it, but you can change the settings. Its simple right click on the desktop , left click on display and you get this screen (windows 10 had mine set on 150%) and everyhting looked horrible, just slid it back down to 100% and it looks great now.

This is the thing, I don't want 100% I need 125% like I had it in Windows 7 or 8.1 and that looked great

I have not tried it yet. Imagine I will throw it on my Alien just for DirectX 12. As far as MS and their revenue, windows is not where most of their revenue comes from anyway. It's Office and now office 365, enterprise, and cloud services. Most people never bought windows outright anyway, they bought new computers that had windows on them. It seems people felt Windows 7 was better for gaming than 8 so it will be interesting to see what people think about 10. We shall see.

This is great information. I never really thought about all the other software they sell in addition to their operating systems.

Regarding performance, there wasn't a huge difference between the operating systems, if I recall correctly. Something like a few hundred points in synthetic benchmarks, which is negligible. I can't speak for games and programs which became completely broken when moving to the newest OS though.

Is it somehow worse than Windows 8? I thought that impossible.

Maybe I'll dual-boot Windows 7 (for every day use) and Windows 10 for gaming (DX12).

That is in Win 8.1 not 10. It is the update software from Microsoft.

But all the kids are so excited. What do you mean Windows 10 is no good? How dare you question the decisions of Microsoft?!? LOL!

I really hate 125% and higher scaling on any OS. Everything is too big and space-hogging and my personal opinion is 100% scaling looks so much cleaner and nicer. But beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Otherwise, there would not be any Kool-Aid drinkers. As difficult as it is for some of us to imagine, there are actually people in the world that believe the transparency-free pastel cartoon bomb that exploded in Windows 8 is attractive... some have even dared to call it a "beautiful" UI.

UI aesthetics aside, restrictions on user control and decreasing functionality are the most serious issues, and the goofed display scaling is just one example of that. It should work correctly and not become blurry or distorted no matter what the individual user preference is. I've been accused of being an elitist, anti-progress, too negative, stubborn and resistant to change by Kool-Aid drinkers. The ugly UI and blurry display scaling are just two examples of the way things have degraded after Windows 7. Everything after Windows 7 has been a downgrade, including reduced functionality and system performance.

I use both Windows 7 and Windows 8 and even on my modest system, I can't see where you're coming from here. System performance is as similar as makes no difference at all and I haven't really noticed any missing functionality. Even running an 11 year old Dell Latitude, both Windows 7 and 8 have practically identical performance; and this example of electronical excrement has a single core CPU and 2GB of RAM, so it will amplify any performance differences between the two OS'.

Why the umbridge, vis performance and functionality?

It has been well known all over these forums that Windows 7 beats Windows 8 in every benchmark, CPU benchmark, SSD Benchmark, RAM benchmark, etc. The only benchmark where 8 beats 7 by a small margin is 3DMark's Firestrike and that is only because Firestrike was optimized for Windows 8 which I couldn't care about.

Windows 8 is an inferior OS simple as that. Winblows 10 blows every OS out of the water in terms of functionality, user control, and best of all its garbage start menu that looks like someone ate the Windows 7 Start Menu then ate the Windows 8 Metro screen and threw up all over Windows 10 to produce that garbage fart menu that they gave us.

I can show you benchmarks about Windows 7 and Windows 8 but hey, this isn't 2013 anymore and we're all over the 8 vs 7 discussion now we have a bigger tragedy to deal with......Winblows 10
