Ok so the title isn't the best but I went for the laugh... I will be the first to say when I don't know/understand something and ask for help about said topic. With that being said, is there a dummy's guide to video settings? I been playing computer games for a while and I just normally just copy the settings I see other people use, but I have no idea what those settings do in the computer. I do have a nice computer, I just would like to know how to make it better other than going into the preset values.
Any information would be helpful in my wanting to learn more about computers/video settings.
I tried doing a search but it could I don't know really what to be looking.
Thank you ahead of time for expanding my knowledge.![]()

Hey bro. What kind of video game settings? Anti-aliasing, v-synch and that type of thing? These are normally set in the game configuration menus.
Or, are you referring to display settings for your LCD/monitor? (I think the former is what you are wanting to know more about, but don't want to assume it is not the latter.) -
more of the setting in the game like Anti-aliasing, v-synch and that type of thing. What they do in the game and how it changes the game. Since I got my new system I know I can turn them off and on. So it is how to have a better picture. I have my m18x with 2 monitors hooked up with the hdmi and mini display port to hdmi.
It is also there is a color difference between the two monitors. One will be blue and the other shows the image as a light teal. -
Not sure about your monitors. Are they identical, or different brands/models? You may be able to adjust some of this with the built-in monitor controls and I would try that first. Most monitors have color, brightness, gamma and similar controls. If that does not get them close enough you might be able to correct the rest (such as color hue and saturation) using the video card's control panel (AMD CCC or NVIDIA Control Panel).
Anti-aliasing helps smooth the jagged edges where things should smooth. This is most visible on curved edges or round objects. The higher the AA setting the smoother the edges, but also the more demand for power.
V-Synch limits your frame rates to match your monitor refresh rate and helps eliminate artifacts and screen tearing. It also lowers FPS performance, but there are some games that need v-synch turned on to work properly. -
