Hi guys,
You probably all know of the new Intel cpu line up to be released right now so there is no big deal in me telling you that.
What I can tell you is that in a few days, they will be available to order and configure with on the M18x.
My trusty rep has told me that Dell already have the SKU numbers loaded onto their systems and it is just a matter of days before they are going to be available to order. This includes all new 2x60 cpu's so those of you who are looking for any particular one will not have long to wait. 2960xm is also included btw.
As with the notifications about GPU updates I mentioned a while back, to start with, these systems will be configurable manually by Dell reps (Some reps are clueless as to how to do this so YMMV) as they may not be live on the Dell webiste right off the bat....
I have no specifics about with regions are getting it when....I do know that the UK will be very soon so if anyone is interested, thought I would let you know. My rep will be able to take orders as soon as the SKU is loaded. He has already told me that price is the same as their predecessors.....(much like it was with 920xm vs 940xm)
I know my rep will be able to manually take orders once live (if not on the websites) but at this point in time, he can only do orders for UK & Ireland and in certain cases, EU.....check the link in my sig. if you fall into that category and are looking to buy....
For all other regions, I am sorry I cant help out but I am sure ifyou are looking to order, you can get a rep to manually add these babies until they are live on the various websites.
Cheers

Nice 2760m for about 180 euro's. 3.4 Ghz if i'm correct.

Well, base clock is up on all of the newer cpu's by 200mhz so the 2760qm will have a base clock of 2.4ghz with boost to 3.5ghz so it should perform on par with 2820qm according to NotebookCheck
It may not a huge mark up in performance but if you or anyone is looking at buying any time now, I would wait until these little babies are ready to get your sticky little hands on, 'eh? -
3.5Ghz..sweet!
Any word on the M17x R3? -

@Stevie the 2960XM don't mean much for the actual 2920XM owners because we can overclock but for the lower versions yes

- not great news for current xm owners but handy to know for anyone else...

What about GPU options?

i just got my system like 2 weeks ago this is bull.

I know how it feels, my 6970's were a few weeks old when Dell brought out 6990's -
-
Yeah it shows that its 2.7ghz and 3.7 at turbo boost compared to 2.5 and 3.5 for the 20
-
Enjoy what you have, an M18x will play 90% of the games through 2014... The 2960 isn't gonna impact this timeframe at all.... -

What you consider good FPS might not be what I consider good
If I can't play a game with every graphic option at max, at 1920x1080, with at LEAST 50fps it's not good enough -

All that was intended by the thread was to make people aware that its available soon.....kinda up to the individual as to what they do with the info....but there it is..... -

I think we already hit the wall with the GPU's a single 6970m is enough for 99% of the games out there
-
Trust me I'm more demanding then you -

Yea, that's what I've been holding off for... I knew the update was coming in September. I'm hoping it's 1st week!

- with more "headroom", I would think there would be more room to overclock it higher....but im not a seasoned OC'er so I wouldnt know for sure....maybe John would care to comment?

If you are in the position of "looking to buy", this thread can only be good news....some of you may have misunderstood the point of the thread - it wasnt about UPGRADING if you have already bought with whatever cpu....it was about WAITING to avoid sheer disappointment that the rig you just paid 4k for has now got a slightly newer and faster cpu that you COULD have had simply by waiting a few days....
Im sure that EVERYONE who may be looking to order would be gutted if they knew nothing and went ahead and ordered only to find out VERY soon that "hey Mr. Customer, look at what you coulda had......"
Sure, no point in always trying to keep up with "the fastest this or that" unless you have deep pockets but for most uf us, a big purchase like this, you really do want the biggest, fastest and best of whatever it may be for as realistically long as possible. -
I was when I got my 6970s and while my order was being produced/delivered they released the 6990s, ... In the end, I got my 6990s, no question. -
It's a bit of a chicken and egg dilemma... -
Is there here someone know if Dellienware will give to the m18x r2 the Optimus capabilities to switch between the igpu and an SLI mode without a reboot ?
Think you that just a firmeware/bios/.. update can do this or it absolutely need an hardware upgrade like a new motherboard with a new chipset ? -

If cpu releases are anything like the M17x R2 which had the 920xm and then the 940xm (which was a tad faster but basically still the same like this cpu update) then we wont see a 2x80 or 2x99 or whatever....the next cpu update will be Ivy....and that will probably be 3xxx or something completely new. -

- it may not be available "online" but as soon as Dell have the relevant SKU loaded correctly on their database, I have been assured that it will be possible for ANY rep to manually configure a system with a 2x60 cpu. We shall see......hope its sooner rather than later as Dell have knocked 10% of the M18x in the UK as of now....and its not via a voucher either....

Of course I then had the pain in the of having to load two systems with all of my stuff and install / download all the games/apps that I use/play. I damn nearly freaked on them for the trouble and ordered a Sager ... But I am quite glad I didn't. This beast is .... um ... beast -
you should have just switched hard drives and called it a day.
or
do a windows back up to an external usb 3.0 setup. (since the key installed is a generic oem key)
or
installed another drive and did the backup -
yur right, but oddly in my laziness I didn't want to do any of those either ... so I just ... did more work ??
Also I heard they actually scan in each part, otherwise I guess I could have just swapped HD's ....
If they don't actually check each part ... hrm ... this screen has a dead pixel on it ... maybe when the 2x60s come out I can return it but keep these sick 6990s ...j/king. Its one fricken pixel ... but ... maybe
-

I doubt they scan in each part individually...that would be massive in terms of resources/manpower and a waste of time to check serial no. for serial no. - I bet some one actually just sits there and shouts "heres another M18x for you Hank, toss it with the rest of the returns......"
-
Eh well, I'd really have liked to have a 2760QM, but whaddya gonna do.
-
Well, I guess if I RMA this one I will know better. Take the rest but I am keeping my GPUS !!! -
-
The lady told me the number one thing that does not get returned with most laptops is the hard drives. They do have a check list and all the components are on it. Even the power supply AND cord. The only thing they don't care about are the promotionals like hat, mousepad, sticker, sock, etc.
If anything is missing they call you and give you one last opportunity to return it. If you don't they hold back money from any refund owed or bill you the difference on an exchange. -
-
What about the nameplate? I'm receiving a replacement, but for some reason it is coming with a standard name plate, so I am thinking of taking off my custom nameplate as a souvenir BUT also keeping the standard nameplate that is coming with the replacement for possible resale value (probably none but still). It's worth the risk if they will give me a chance to return it still.

-
Yeah I see no reason for them to fuss over not getting my personalized nameplate back, it's not necessarily reusable. It's mine. >=)
