I don't think it's a wild guess, I think it's an educated guess. Yes, I also think the problems people are seeing with the 880M are to do with some kind of bizarre implementations by NVidia with the drivers or vBIOS, so I agree from that point of view that an 880M is not just an overclocked 780M. I'd rather have an overclocked 780M I think!

They may have put extra limits since it will throttle more often than the 780m.

Well, I just ordered the 570W wirh 4960X and 780M SLi today, will get it within two weeks :)

Gonna try and use the 880M in my P570W and see how that goes.

Yes, this is exactly what I think. I think it's a fantastic piece of hardware that probably just needs to be tuned correctly. GTX 780M didn't perform well at first either. In fact, the 780M also has lousy performance with a stock vBIOS. And, if you don't know how to set things correctly as far as voltage, power and temperature targets it is still not very impressive even with an unlocked vBIOS.

    Great service from Upgradedonkey!

They are sending me a new 880M card to replace the 880M that failed and asked me to send the second 880M card back for check.

Im gonna send a mail to eurocom and ask their opinion of my 4500point firestrike run (single GPU with no OC).

I ordered my 880m card from upgradedonkey and same problem, My card throttle since the begining and I never managed to make it work properly. All try doesn't work for me and the tweak of mathieulh not work for me too.

I tried to reinstall windows with new ssd but always the same, this card is a $hit and make hard throttle all the time, only the 327.23 driver works for me.

I'll contact upgradedonkey for check with him but last time he didn't reply to my ask

    I keep you informed

Did you upgrade to the new modified vBIOS? I also had severe throttling on OEM vBIOS (both CORE and MEMORY) but after I installed the new vBIOS, the card dont throttle anymore. Dont misunderstand me, the new modifiled vBIOS dont help with the benchmark as its still very low but hey, one step further . :)

Its not Upgradeyourdonkeys fault that the card is crappy OEM.

If I install the modded vbios from svl7 and john, the driver crash when windows start, and after 3 or 4 times, the screen freeze, whatever the driver version

Wow, hope it's not that that's been causing the issue. The Power Target Slider has been mentioned a number of times in this thread already as a possible cause & cure for low scores.

Well, it's not uncommon for people to not pay attention and miss important things, especially so if they are upset. It would actually be very nice if it was something so silly and easy as this. Same kind of thing happened with 780M. Everyone that had gone from 680M to 780M was being spastic and freaking out because 680M kicked its butt, but we see how that worked out. The tables got turned once people started paying closer attention and not sticking with stuff that always worked in the past.

If you look at the screenshot, that's just stock throttling. That's the normal throttling that the card does before its unlocked... My locked card still didn't score as low as they're seeing:

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M video card benchmark result - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4940MX CPU @ 3.10GHz,Notebook P377SM-A

Something else is causing their throttling. Its true that stock vBIOS will throttle you to 954MHz because of the power target but the extreme throttling is something else entirely. I'm watching this thread closely because while I'm lucky to have not experienced it with mine, I'm also stuck for overclocking until it gets resolved.

I have a P377SM-A,not an AW18, I was just sharing my stock score that I got with that machine with the stock vbios to illustrate what it does stock. Unlocked vbios got me to 10154 with +450 memory but I won't push the core because of the driver crippling crap when it crashes too much.

Not too sure that you're expecting from the 880m's though. Ethrem's score is a stock clocks which seems about right.

    Here's a fresh one for ya: P14520

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M video card benchmark result - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4940MX CPU @ 3.10GHz,Notebook P377SM-A

It appears to be a flag that gets set in the card from what I've been reading... only "fix" is to use a driver that doesn't look for it which is not a fix in my mind or anyone else's. There was a long and involved method that worked for one member but I don't think that it works for everyone and I'm certainly not going to push it to find out when I have a desktop with a 780 Ti:

P14806: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4770K,ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. MAXIMUS VI FORMULA

EDIT: Wow, since when do nVidia desktop drivers install without a modded INF? Those of you who are throttling should try the 340.43 desktop beta and see if it still super throttles... maybe whatever is in the notebook driver doesn't exist in the desktop?

    http://www.nvidia.com/content/Drive...a-64bit-english-beta.exe&lang=us&type=GeForce

    Might be worth a shot.

So just for information 340.43-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-beta doesn't work, always the same hard throttle.

I'll try with disable windows driver enforcement for the desktop version

edit : same thing with the desktop version :(

So return to the 327.23 again

What would be unfortunate is if the flag detection parameter was found in each new driver, and required a modded driver for each release. What a pain that would be!

Hmm... I installed the desktop drivers with no modded INF and it was detected just fine. Same with the notebook drivers after the desktop caused the card to crash a whopping 4 times in a row while sitting idle.

What is the hardware ID of these cards? I have device ID 10DE-1198 subvendor Clevo/Kapok (1558)

I'm starting to wonder if these are different cards altogether.

    Mine is GK104 Rev A2

Unless it is looking at the subvendor, that card should function exactly the same as mine when it comes to drivers, meaning no modded INF.

I don't know how explain this, This flag or regardless the name who can make the throttle on the GPU, I already changed my stock vbios by another stock vbios from other member who have not problem with his card and it doesn't change anything. So I guess this "flag" must be somewhere in the rom or memory in the card who it's not possible to reset simply with a flash vbios ?

I'd like to know what that think johnkss about this.

I've heard many horror stories in correcting the same problem your encountering. One that has been tried and tested is to remove the battery and ram modules, then holding the power button for 1 minute. After that, the guy completely removed both his Intel HD and Nvidia drivers. He then reinstalled the Intel driver first. Then he installed the last known Nvidia driver that didn't include the GeForce update. That solved the guys problem along with someone else problem.

    The GeForce Experience update?

Because i think that is the driver that he is using now... its by no means a fix as the flag is still there and you're stuck with crippled performance in a lot of games (Watch Dogs is a great example)

I am curious if booting the cards up in Linux with the 880M Linux driver wouldn't flush the flag though. Linux has a habit of flushing anything that its drivers don't detect belong there. I wonder if maybe it would flush this flag too. Its worth a shot.
