M18X R1 several problems ......

I am in possession of alienware M18X R1,
In short I will tell the absurd story of this great machine .

- First problem 1 year ago, screen red stripes.
With the help of this great forum I solved by replacing cable sli .

- Second problem , sometimes the screen turned black , gray and even pink ,
This began to occasional intervals .
Called DELL, after 1 hour on the phone with the technician tell me to begin to perform a clean install of windows .
Ok I run , the pc and went well for a week, then resumed with black screen

2x gtx 580m card , 1x LCD assy, ​​cable assy 1 LCD , 1 mainboard , 1 keyboard ....!

Ok the beast and went home.

Third - problem ( caused)
I turn on the machine and launch F1 2013 3 sec . pam ....! still BLACK SCREEN !
( Problem always occurs after the launch of a game) .
Before calling back of ! I make the diagnosis with HVinfo ,
I find that the temperature GPU VRM 1 and 90 degrees at rest.
When I launch the game rises quickly to 105 degrees and crashes with black screen.
Ok call DELL ! After a week of various phone calls, the decision to withdraw the pc again .
Parts replaced 2x gtx 580m card ( 4 cards are replaced ) , 1 heatsink GPU1 , 1 gpu heatsink 1.

OK the best back I'm happy.

I turn on the machine , launch the game everything is fine.
On screen ruler for HVinfo .
After 1 hour of play battlefield with 4 1 VRM GPU temperature rises to 90 degrees.
WRM GPU2 to 83 degrees.
For other temperatures see attached file P.f.

..... Phone DELL ... after 1 hour of test.
initially the technician tells me that the temperature at 90 degrees and WRM too high.
Then leave me waiting 5 minutes.
The technician comes back and tells me :
- For your car and done everything possible and that hwinfo is not a software DELL, we will call you back in 1 day to give you our decision.

-2014 I wanted to take M18x R3 ....

What to do?

Question and bad 90/95 degrees on vrm ?

It is a problem of pad, repaste ?

You can post a photo card gtx 580m marked with exact wrm 1 ?

The GPU core temps are fine, but the voltage regulator modules (VRM) are getting really hot for reason. Maybe the heat sinks are missing thermal pads or something like that. Have you taken it apart to have a closer look at this situation? It might be an easy fix. Also need to also be sure your heat sinks are 100W NVIDIA heat sinks and not 75W, because only the 100W heat sinks will work correctly. If you do have the 100W heat sinks, my guess is that something is not installed correctly. Or, it could be that the thermal pads are just too old and dried out to work properly any more. You can tell by a decal on the heat sink... it will be clearly labeled "100W" if that is what you have.

If you are still under warranty, see if they will dispatch you a new set of 100W heat sinks and support plates. If not, then I would order some thermal pads and paste and tear into it.

If they don't have the 580M heat sinks in stock, they can send 680M heat sinks instead. They would actually be a little better than 580M heat sinks, as they have a little bit of extra material. They are 100% interchangeable.

In 2 different repairs has always replaced gpu heatsink left and right

total, 2x heatsink right JW8P7,
2x heatsink left Y3WC7

I do not understand 2 repairs and I always warm WRM problem ...!

The machine is still under warranty.

Do you think that DELL sent me 2 680m heatsink M18x R2?
(since the warranty is for M18x r1)

I don't understand why you are having issues with the VRMs overheating. The only explanation would be something is wrong with the way the thermal pads are placed or something is wrong with the video cards. If I were in your shoes I would still tear into it and investigate to be sure the heat sinks and thermal pads/paste are installed correctly. It might be a simple fix that does not require a dispatch.

Since you are still under warranty, they need to try something different to resolve this if you can't resolve it quickly and easily on your own with pads and paste. They could replace your video cards with 675M if 580M is no longer a stocked item. They might be resistant to do that since they do not officially support 675M on the M18xR1 even though they are an identical product in everything except their name.
