    Hi all,

I have an Alienware M18X R2 which has developed (what I think is) a heat-related problem: every time the machine is exposed to cold temperatures, e.g. being transported in a cold car, the display when it is first turned on is partially missing. After a while, it seems to come back, and then is fine until the machine is exposed to cold again.

The machine is out of warranty, however the mainboard was replaced in warranty about 18 months ago. I have a hazy recollection of the technician saying the repair itself was warranted for some period, but I'm not sure.

Does anybody know the situation with this? I'm in the UK, by the way.

    Thanks in advance.

The board is warranted for repair, not the LCD.

Right, but I've seen speculation that it is the board that is responsible. You think it's specifically the LCD?

I've only witnessed it two times - the first time was under the stock driver off the disk; the second time was with the most recent Crimson driver.

I suppose hooking it up to an external monitor would be the best way to tell if it is screen or motherboard?

Yeah, that would also do it, or the video cards for that matter too if they are starting to die.
