For those of y'all that still have these beasts, can you tell me what battery life you are getting? Also settings, OS, usage type that gives you that battery life?

I have two batteries, my original (4.9% wear) and a new one (0% wear apparently). Both of these batteries net me 3 hours of battery life. (Around 3 hrs 10 min total)

this is with only iGPU enabled, 70-80% brightness, AlienFX on, Windows 10 latest version (better battery setting), web browsing usage. No timeout on display.

I'm thinking of going back to 7 or 8.1. I feel like I should be getting 4+ hours but I'd like to see if that's what these laptops get.

IIRC @bennyg had set up specific OS installations to get the most out of his battery life.

    nope not me
Throttlestop and Windows power management profiles is all I bother doing. Not much point worrying about battery life on 17" SLI laptops without iGPU

Hmm then I can't remember who that was then but that's the method that particular member used to get more battery life.

Mine is beat up, hardly can get one and a half hour on iGPU. I am on windows 10 also. I have them since the initial free distribution, but as far as I can remember, I could easily view two 2hour movies on a single charge.

By the way, where did you source a new one? Since mine is beat up, I consider changing to fresh cells and upping them from 2100mah to 2900mah. I will possibly get a better battery or a bomb!

Think it was @Mr. Fox that used to get 4-6 hours on his. This is like my 4th M18x laptop and also remember getting 4+ hours before on my previous ones.

There's plenty of new batteries on eBay for the 18.

That is correct. That was with the M18xR2. I never got that much from the Alienware 18.

Yeah my AW18 also only got around 2-3 hours max. But my older M18xR2's got at least 4+ hours. I'm trying to figure out if it's windows 10 or something else.

I've already turned off start-up items, services, moved the battery slider to better battery in windows 10 and I can only get about 3 hours.

Do you remember if Windows 8.1 and/or 10 reduced your battery life?

Sorry guys, I'm not active here as I used to be as my enthusiasm is dying out. I only use Windows 7, it's easier to configure and cleaner than Windows 10, and I stil pull 5-6 hours with battery power on iGPU, power saver mode, lowest brightness, alienfx off.

These must be the factors on why I am not getting those same results. I am usingg 70% brightness and Windows 10.

I was debating on using Windows 8.1 though maybe I should just go back to 7. I hardly play games anyways and probably don't need DX12.

What happen with the enthusiasm? Didn't you just recently get the M17xR1 fully working or something?

But I feel it..kinda feeling the same lately. I'm using a MacBook Pro right now LOL

Real life is catching up to me, and I've maxed out all my rigs, and I've no plans to purchase any more gaming laptops. Not in the position to build a desktop either as pascal is old af.

Sameness here lol. I kinda gave up everything for now , I’m more focus on life and my family. I have to give attention to my house that needs some TLC.

But , I have duel PSU Mod and maybe 3 batteries I can sell to you.

I've actually kinda given up too, kinda why I don't have a Clevo P870TM1 right now.

I'd rather not carry four batteries around LOL and would prefer fixing my current battery life. I'll try windows 7 and 8.1 on two separate SSDs and see if it helps.

I haven't seen a single comparison of battery life with the latest 10 builds vs 7 vs 8.1.

My M18x R2 could easly get 6 hours on battery too, (Win 7, lowest brightness, wifi on, light web browsing, no alienFX) :)
The battery had a very low wear aswell :)

Alien FX plays a major role in battery life, as well as brightness.

I think it's the brightness. AlienFX off doesn't seem to do much to my battery life so far. I'll be testing windows 8.1 soon since my 10 install got messed up.

Windows 10 got me 3 hours on average, let's see what 8.1 does at the same settings. :D

Thank you for the link. Sadly the one you suggested doesn't sent to my country. I did find some other claiming that they sell authentic Alienware batteries, but I just don't believe them.

I believe having 980m SLI and just browsing, the high constant Amperage puts a stress to the battery. Stock battery will fail again, that is why I am shooting for some high drain ones to rebuilt my pack. Money seems to be the same, effort is not!

I forgot to reply here with my findings. So it seems Windows 8.1 performs about the same as Windows 10 in battery life.

I was getting around 3 hrs 20 mins with the exact same settings as Windows 10 (80% brightness, Wi-Fi On, Screen never turns off, AlienFX on, light to moderate usage web browisng/word processing).

I guess the gap between 7, 8.1 and 10 is close enough to where it doesn't really matter. I'll probably go back to Windows 10 once the next LTSB releases, too lazy to swap back right now.

Next test: Turn off my 3.9Ghz turbo overclock and see if stock clocks increase my battery life by much. :D
