No, no. You don't get it: the cat is the owner. Cats are always the owners, we are just their subdits... We are the aliens in their world! :D

My initial order on may 1st, when I received it the GPU's were badly overheating. Now I just got my 2nd order after returning that one and one thing I notice immediately is that the rubberized material feels different and better than the original one I had. Maybe dell changed the manufacturing on that slightly since early may. It seems like the old finish but with a protective leathery feeling layer it that makes it feel much better and smoother.

Thank you all for the kind comments regarding the pics, I've just started using the DSLR this year. I did shrink them down a bit to comply with forum rules, and added a few more. I forgot that 1024 is fairly big and didn't check the picture rules :p sorry about that.

So far this laptop is awesome, plays games like a champ. Although I have been having some windows aero window manger issues after I installed the 11.5 hotfix b drivers. But that's not a big deal, it'll probably get resolved with a new driver release.

And yes the cats think they own most of my stuff

Anybody played Eve Online with the integrated graphics card? When I closed the client my desktop went all psychadellic. The shutdown screen is the correct colors though.

I got my lovely alienware m18x a couple of days ago. Happy as hell. But today I tried to do a simple macro. And it did work. I used it in notebook just to see. But when I was ingame, nothing happened. Any clue to why? I´ve never had this problem on my stationary computer.

The room didn't get all melty, thankfully. To be more specific, the colors shifted. Almost like I didn't have the cable plugged in for a monitor.

is there a sort of rubber around the display like on the mac books to keep it frome toucing the base unit?

Well - there is a slightly raised narrow rubber edge to the display that runs around the very outer edges of the whole screen (apart from bottom edge) that "cushions" the display when the lid is closed. If I look at mine when the lid is closed, I can clearly see that there is a small gap between the lid and the keyboard....

The R2 used to have rubber feet embedded in the palmrest to achieve the same thing but this time, I like Dell's approach to this as it gives the palmrest a smooth and uncluttered feel.

But, anyway, and in any case, do yourself a great service: insert a microfiber microtexture cloth between the keyboard and the screen. (3M has a perfect and cheap one). So you can be sure that nothing will allow the oily print fo your fingers in the keyboard touch the poxyglass of your screen. ;)

Another thing....regarding screen....something ive only just found out to my dismay.....CHECK FOR DEAD PIXELS! - as soon as you get your system!!!!

Man, tell, ya, i didnt really look that hard and i dunno what made me look...i think i just thought i saw something "not right" on a black background......downloaded " dead pixel checker" and WOW....loads of the little buggers in the top left of my screen.

Now, that program above has a little "exerciser" to try and unstick those pixels.....I ran it for a bit and it did repair a few....

I had to resort to gently "massaging" the screen.....which aint easy through the screen cover/flexi plastic...but managed to exercise the little buggers away......

So, everyone...check your screens with extreme criticality....i reckon i had about 6 red dots on black......

Back in my beloved Inspiron 8600, I had those white, light blue or red pixels... then Dell change my screen twice... (the original was a Samsung one, changed by a Sharp) since then, touch wood, no dead pixels at all... not even one. As Dell tech support told me, if the screen have more than 5 porblematic pixels they change the screen... I don't know if this politics are still "alive"...

Yeah, the cord alone is heavier than my M17x power adapter. Well, maybe not, but damn close! I wish that they'd hurry up and make these adapters available on their store. This damn brick (and cord) weighs more than my wife's power supply and her laptop combined! I'll be glad when I don't have to carry it around with me when going back and forth from work to home.

Well, after placing my order for an M18x on 5.26.11.. It has FINALLY arrived on 7.12.11. I have to say this was WELL worth the wait. After using it constantly since then, my mothership landed in 100% perfect condition. Zero dead pixels, excellent build quality, good temperatures. I could not ask for a better outcome!

I orderd on July 5th and was told this morning that it is just now going into production today. The delay was due to no Nvidia 580m gpu's available. So, I would think other folks might have this delay as well.

Yes. Although odd you ask as you cant have crossfire setup (or sli) in the M17x R3....but for your information:

A single 6970m will max out most games with the exception of Crysis and Metro 2033, maybe a few others....

    AMD Radeon HD 6970M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

Crossfire 6970m's should max out all games....

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-6970M-Crossfire.43869.0.html

Some games are more cpu dependant (the likes of Crysis and Metro) and will perform better or worse depending on what cpu you have.....most games are gpu orientated though and therefore, crossifre 6970m's should plough through most games with ease.....

A single Nvidia GTX 580m or AMD 6990m would be the best option at the moment for the M17x R3.....

Looks like with the latest DX11 patch Crysis 2 and Witcher 2 can't be maxed on 6970Mx2. Will need to see how 6990M's manage.

I can manually pick the 275.33 drivers using the menu options on the Nvidia drivers page for 580M's.
Failing that laptopvideo2go could give me a modified inf on request. It's not like any modern WHQL driver shouldn't run the things. Probably more likely we just need to have the chips in our hands to see. And if that doesn't happen for a few weeks yet, then we just have to wait.

Is that with stock clocks on gpu and cpu though??? - I have both titles which I will test out after I have installed my SSD. Also, what drivers were you using to come to this conclusion? (all out of curiosity)
