Well, I know the R2 Nebula red well......hence why Ive ordered the same again....such a gorgeous red - im hoping that it hasnt been altered in any way as its metallic "look" is just sublime.

I haven't gotten to that yet. Still have to install my SSD + ram and do a fresh Windows install.

You know I have to take a poke at ya for this... @ 2:19 secs that coveted 18x box almost takes a nose dive off the 'limited space' table. Nice save!

A little miffed that AW didn't package the TOS Link MiniPlug in plastic and it appears to just be 'floating in the box'. Also the PSU, the cable for the PC side looked like it was hand wrapped - no cable tie? May have been just a botch on the assembly line. Not a big deal I guess. Other than that, typical accessories packing.

Do you have 460s or 6970s ????

 

Looks like people are having issues with Witcher 2 frame rates. Probably just needs a patch or driver update.

 

It's actually due to Xfire not working for that game yet. There is no app profile from AMD.

You can use this program though to create a custom profile to remedy the problem.

I haven't benchmarked yet but installing now to test.

If you check the benchmarking thread you can find downloads to put the beast through it's paces. I would be interested to see how that CPU scales that you guys spent all that extra money on!

 

What does the TOSlink plug do? I just thought it was trash. Almost threw it out.

 

Correct me if I'm wrong, but...
Its a optical link to a receiver or even some stereo setups.

 

You plug it into the the toslink port on the laptop to do optical out. After plugging in the adapter you can then use an optical cable. It's an adapter basically.

 

It is a standart developed by Toshiba that provide connections to signals over optical fiber (or an optical audio cable). Many High Fidelity sound systems (and also game consoles) provide this kind of connections. This connection offer a better sound quality than the conventional electrical connections. Left, right, center, etc. are all in one simply connector.

And yeah that was a pretty close call and it freaked me out during the recording of the vid but I tried to keep my cool and not let on lol. the TOS link was just tossed in there, they did the same with the M17x-R3. I was also surprised at the lack of a cable tie for the PSU, guess they didn't think its really needed (which it kinda isn't).

 

Cool video, thanks for that. I know you said it took two weeks (14 days) from order day to arriving... curious how many business days that was. Today is day 8 for me. Getting anxious. Really worried about the screen since I have the RGB right now and once I got it, I said I'd never own a lesser screen, lol... Did someone say that the Alienhead on the front cover no longer lights up? That's a let down. That's the one thing that people always talk about first when you have it out in public. Bah!

 

Lights up just can't change the color.

 

About the Alienhead, which color it is by default ?

 

Has anyone made use of the mouse pad ? I was curious about the quality, could i game with it ? I use a razer mamba and my table top

My 11x is the same... lights up with white eyes but can't change the color...

 

How is that Razer Mamba Matrix? I ordered one after drooling over it for months specifically for my new 18x!

 

I liked the Alienware mousepad from my M17x so much I ordered a 2nd one lol

 

If it doesn't change colors, then it must be white by default like all the other models now. Pity though.

I'm a bit surprised the whole 'AlienHead on lid cant be controlled by AlienFX' is still being asked...

On the M11x (all), M14x, M17xR3 and of course M18x, this feature was removed. The AlienHead will still light up however they are lit from the display panel vs. an actual color changing LED.

Attached is what you'll see. AlienHead in picture is from a 17xR3.

 

Can someone take pictures of the bottom without the cover? I want to see if there is indeed a cable or not that goes to the wirelessHD chip.

 

Any news on a teardown vid yet from Dell on youtube for this new beast?? - or someone gonna volunteer to rip their new baby to bits live on cam! - scary thought - sending shivers down my spine just think about it ......

 

See attached - not an actual picture but a snap from the documentation link (post#1 owners lounge) with notes added. The antenna cable will route from the card and then through the bottom to the top of the system via a small opening. From there, the cable vanishes into the recesses of the display housing

I will be doing whatever is needed to get to the 2nd set of dimms on mine, I have 4x 2GB sticks of HyperX PnP 1866 ram that want installing! Depending on my enthusiasm, I may also re-paste CPU and GPUs just to be done with that up front. I also have some thermal pads on hand I may apply

 

Note to those that open the bottom panel: Don't let screws fall into the battery bay because there's some pretty big gaping holes there. Last night one of mine fell in and started rolling around inside the system. Thought I'd have to tear it down to get to it but fortunately it made its way out after a few shakes.

 

scaryy stuff... I hate when that happens. Its like playing one of those marble game mazez... blind.

 

but still alienware shows a customizable head on its configuration page..
