So whats better. 1600mhz/CL9 or 2133mhz/CL12
-
My Kingston HyperX PnP running at 2133 with CL12 does remarkably better in memory benchmark tests than slower memory does, but the actual user experience is no different. The improvement in speed is indiscernible and it offers only minor benefits on benchmarks that are not focused on memory testing. The faster memory has done nothing whatsoever for the gaming experience as far as I can tell. Upgrading from 1600 to 1866 and 2133 speeds has been probably the least meaningful hardware upgrade I have done on the M18x. I would recommend not even bothering with it unless you get memory that has XMP profiles, but I can't attest to the benefits (or lack thereof) for XMP modules because I haven't had the luxury of playing with them.
This is probably the most useful purpose of upgrading memory. In addition to increasing quantity, speed might make more of difference than it does with other uses, such as gaming. Having an excess quantity is better than not enough regardless of application. Having excess that is never used doesn't hurt anything like not having enough does. -
