Is the option to turn USB Boot off in there? :D That is causing some problems! And also, can a BIOS go bad at some point after the flash? Or is a good flash a good BIOS for good?

Yes see screen. No the bios cant go bad after a good flash. Set everything back to default setting in bios.

Please explain what problem your actually having. (did u flash or are u using something normal standard)

This unlocked DELL A03 bios is just that unlocked meaning nothing was touched from the original DELL A03 just UNLOCKED.

    WORKING 100%

    some more unlocked screens attached

No my PC is fine. It's just that the BIOs attempts to boot from USBs or queries them and so it hangs, which is why I asked if the ability was in that BIOS to turn USB Boot off. Thank you for clearing that up though my friend I will flash this ^_^

Enjoy!, this is how the m18x should have been from the start (since it's suppose to be a desktop replacement) ^o^ Oh did i mention that there actually is more options under the power tabs heaps of other goodies as well :)

Makes the throttle issue not relevant anymore!

Yes I can't believe how many options are available now and that is just looking at the screen shoots because I don't have the machine with me now , is that temp throttle the one says 90c the one supposed to be 85C ?

Yes i changed that throttle from 85 to 90! when taking the screen shot, but resetting to defaults bring it back to 85 or you can set this to 10 if you wish :)

    Lol just joking ;)

you know that is the most important change on this bios at least for the 2920 users because when you run prime 95 and the temp reach 85c the cpu throttles down to 3.7ghz thanks for sharing I can't wait to go home ;)

Yes i know this would help with higher longer clocks without throttle.

And here is some more screens for you until you get home the advanced cpu control power tab and boot options :0

I'd like to see some non 2920 members OC their cards using the new bios and see what the best way to do so is. Now that there are more manipulations, I am sure it can get some good performance gains; especially with fan control.

this is interesting news for sure, but for us 6990m owners the only thing that really matters is software that can bios flash these cards with increased voltages. i am 100% sure we will be seeing stable 900+ core with a little voltage increase to these gpu's. i wonder what is holding back, it can't be the motherboard bios?

I completely agree, there is so much more room in the 6990s its crazy talk. Even with the fan controls from this Mod it should be pretty awesome.

Did anyone try changing the thermal controls yet (Fan speed, thermal trip points, etc.)

Directly modifying the registers didn't have an effect, these unlocked hidden menus should be modifying the same registers, as I disassembled the SetupUtility to determine which registers each menu option modifies. so I suspect it won't have an effect still (as it is being controlled by the EC)

I'll flash and test myself shortly :)

Flashed to unlocked bios. OM G!!! So much more options!! Thank you bar-code. + rep.

I upped the throttling to begin at 90C instead of 85C. Is there anything else I need to change? Gonna go run some benches to see if my score has changed.

OK, so probably some more work to be done. If throttling is handled in EC like I suspect, original BIOS A03 Compal Embedded Controller firmware will need to be modified, rather than InsydeH2O BIOS part of things. This one has no established documentation that I have come across, unlike things readily available for InsydeH2O. Ouch :)

from my last tiny bit of understand of the bios changes...some changes have to be implemented in more than one spot and sometimes that can be 4 separate bits just to make one menu change stick....

Well, if more than one bit needs to be modified, it should be clearly visible in the disassembly of the forms table, I didn't see anything like that yet (except for BCLK modification, and IGFX/Dedicated GFX toggle)

First thing I noticed with the unlocked BIOS is that modification was done to un-hide all menus, but not to unlock limits. So for example, short TDP is still limited to 80W using this method when it can be set higher with direct register modification.

Should be an easy change in the setup form for ahmed :)

yeah, not always going to be clearly visible. nor in the same place. because these other bits are triggers (so to speak) where "this", "this" and "this" have to match before "this" can change.

again..i'm not the expert in the bios modding..just some things i have seen in the past. :)

They will be though, wont they? - I mean, unlocking the bios doesnt actually give you a performance boost....its just unlocks certain areas that were previously "hidden".

Im a total noob when it comes to this kinda stuff but my understanding is that the main benefit of unlocking the bios is to remove the throttle point for cpu/gpu to ALLOW better performance or for them to pushed harder and further for better performance. without them being limited by Dell bios constraints.

Simply unlocking the bios is a bit like unlocking a door....its still the same closed door until you open it up more.....
