    Hey guys,
I upgraded my M18x R1 from GTX580m (I had only one, the other was dead) to single GTX780m. Can I use the heatsink from GTX580m? Its part number is JW8P7 - 100W nVidia heatsink. It fits very well, but I am kinda concerned about two VRM chips that are not cooled at all. Should I buy some other heatsink? And if so, which part number it should be?

    Thanks for your answers.

You would be better off with 680M heat sinks to provide cooling for those components. This is a copy and paste from one of my Dell invoices. The price was valid in March 2014.

    Y48TK Assembly,Heatsink,Video Graphics Adapter,13GS1,M18XR2,Right $28.99

Yes I would not run without them being properly cooled as they can get very hit especially if you tweak.

I hope so because that's what I'm going to put in mine. I'm upgrading a my old 6970 crossfire rig to 780 SLI and swapping out the heatsinks for the nVidia 100W ones (which I'm sill in the market for btw). It'll be the first time I've done this on a laptop so wish me luck.

Hey guys, I have another question. It is about X-brackets.

According to this post here on notebookreview http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-18-m18x/687292-guide-curing-shorted-support-plate-gtx-580m-error-code-43-revision-ff-error.html#post8831154 there are two types of X-brackets. One is "cooling" 4 VRAM chips, the other all 8 of them. Which brackets should be used for which GPU? "Dual" bracket for primary (left) GPU and "single" bracket for secondary (right) GPU? Does it matter at all? I had it vice-versa on my 580Ms, so I am kinda confused.

    Thanks for your answers.

The ram does not really need cooling (and the bracket does not really add cooling) so it wont make a difference really.
