    Hello there,

    I bought an Alienware M18x R1 with 2960XM & GTX580M SLI 4 years ago

I wounder is it able upgrade to GTX980M / GTX880M?

If no, please let me know which GPU can a M18x R1 afford.

    Thanks.

Nope, the max nvidia GPU is 780M from what i've read.

SLI / single 680M or 780M will work
    CF / single 7970M will work (8970M / M290X should work too)

880M will also work, no 980M support in the R1

I was in the same situation and went with 780m SLI but I wish that I switched to R2 and 980m right away....too many games without good SLI support 780m is too weak
