Well, I knew it would be too good to be true. Those should sell for $400 max, since they are selling for way less on the M17x-R4. I'll still bite though. Anyone know if they are already in AAFES?

I'm a member of AAFES. Called up ask if they would match the price. I also wanted the new ati's of course :D He checked the aafes site and confirmed we were looking at the same screen and said sure I will match it but will have to pay tax. Told him to signed me up. He also made me add $75 bucks for the ati's because it wasnt on the AAFES site. A side note AAFES just jacked up there prices. The max out config goes for $3400. Just in the nick of time ;)

Hi I'm total new for Alienware and trying to make an order now

I think I need some help from you guys

    Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit
    3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3820QM (8MB Cache, up to 3.7GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0)
    16GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz
    256GB SSD SATA 6Gb/s
    CrossFireX™ 2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon™ HD 7970M
    Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Reader (BR-ROM, DVD+-RW, CD-RW)

THis is my spec I want to buy.

one thing about CPU, between 3820QM and 3920XM, how much is it different?

Is it worth to put 800 more to get 3920XM?

How much performance is going to be different in my system?

One more thing is about Warranty.

I saw two guys posted his order and shows the list.

I don't know where to see those many lists since i can only see small list
    on Review & checkout step.

Question is Do I really need Advanced Warranty?

I was going to get 3 Years Advanced Warranty.. Since I'm kinda new for

laptop and if it's broken something I don't know what to do.

    I saw some of lists

995-6083 1 Dell Hardware Warranty Plus On-Site Service, Initial Year
995-6103 1 In-Home Service after Remote Diagnosis, Parts and Labor On-Site Response, Initial Year
    950-3337 1 1 Year Limited Warranty

Is it automatically showed when I complete the order?

Ronkuba and Bigtim123 did not choose any warranty? just 1 year basic plan?

    Lastly, what is AAFES??

How can the price can be so muchchchch cheaper...?

mine is already over 4K ....

I hope you guys can give me some advices... I have been waiting for a long longlong time~!!

    Thanks~!

NVIDIA probably will not release it until they have seen solid stats on how well the 7970M performs. That way they can do the final tuning on the 680M enough that it will peform slightly better than 7970M. My guess is that it will be June or July before NVIDIA releases its mobile flagship for this GPU generation.

your built is similar to mine, basically 3830qm is not overclockable. Advanced Warranty is one of the best selling point buying Alienware since even accidental damages are covered. and lastly AAFES is US army.

Unless they did something different with the BIOS and Ivy Bridge, you can do a number of tweaks with non-Extreme CPUs to noticeably improve performance. You can tweak BCLK, memory timing, CPU voltage and amps, disable c-states and force turboboost max clocks, etc. The multipliers are locked on a non-Extreme CPU, but all of those other tweaks will help more than you might realize. I was able to achieve higher benchmark scores through these tweak with a 2760QM CPU than what some inexperienced 2920/2960XM owners have been able to achieve. I love my XM proc, but don't overlook the potential for improvement with a QM proc. Have a look here... LINK.

I actually went with 675 sli instead of 7970 CF after debating back and forth. I don't think there's any game that 675 sli cannot max right now. I can always buy either 680 or 7970 later. I just don't want to deal with any of the new GPU problems.

thanks for the link, didn't know that. +1 rep. :)

I actually think that's a very smart move.....early adopters sometimes look back and regret jumping in with both feet so early on - besides, like you say it will give you the chance to weigh up 7970m vs 680m....Like Mr. Fox said before, I imagine that although AMD will hold the crown for now without a shadow of a doubt, its likely to be short lived because Nvidia will more than likely be that bit faster again........that's just tech and although the Nvidia's will probably be more expensive, if I were to have to make a choice I would have to fall on the green side - only because of past AMD experiences.

I hear you on that. It happens every time just about. And, AMD and NVIDIA don't always do a good job on drivers. This is part of what is slowing the distribution of 7970M CrossFire.
    You're welcome. +1 Rep returned. :)

Also, I didn't know it until someone else shared the overclocking "love" with me, so I'm just paying it forward. I credit johnksss with most of my overclocking knowledge, which truly pales in comparison to his. As the saying goes, "Imitation is the sincerest (form) of flattery." Some of the settings I mentioned may not be accessible until an unlocked BIOS becomes available for the Ivy Bridge motherboards.

It seems like I need a lot of knowledge for doing some tweaks with QM.

    So Mr.Fox

Since I don't have that much knowledge and experience ...

I'm just beginner and trying to learn from now on..

Is it worth put 800 more to get 3920XM?

or should I just go for 3820QM?

    Thanks

You guys need to PM me your sales rep, because the qutoes I'm getting suck. Even through aafes. Was planning to use Allan, but after 3 weeks of waiting on hardware it looks like he's out of the picture.

In my opinion, the Extreme CPU is worth every cent. To be fair, this is advice from an overclocking nut, so take it for what it's worth. I love my Extreme CPU. If you only plan to play games, having the best available for a short period of time is not important to you, and you don't plan on pushing your system hard to try to hit numbers that only matter to other overclockers, save the $800 for something else.

If can tell you this much... if you get the Extreme CPU and start tweaking with it you will be hooked and will not want to own anything else except for an Extreme CPU. It's way too much fun. So, choose your poison wisely, my friend. ;)

Edit: I'm just a beginner, too. Until about a year or so ago, I had never overclocked any computer even though I have been a PC enthusiast and technical wiz for around 20 years. Technology changes so fast, it's impossible to have all the answers, all the time.

7970M Xfire is available in Slovakia too.. I've ordered nVidia GTX 675 in Sli first but when I discovered that AMD will be released soon I changed my order... I know that it's risky turn but I really want performance for my money and performance gap between these two generations of AMD cards is just too big so I went to AMDs.. Hope I won't be disappointed and my system will hold upcoming games with breeze

Just waiting for a good quote (hopefully) from HIDEvolution then I'm placing my order too. Specs in sig. Can't wait to test this thing out - two 7970Ms should be one hell of a step up from what I'm currently running on.

Well, I'll at least finally be able to play Battlefield 3. Without it crashing every 5 minutes. Hopefully.

^^^Agree EC. Going from a single 3870 to 7970CF is going to be a massive change. Congratulations on your purchasing decision... hope you get a decent price.

Going through hidevolution I was only able to get a 50 dollar discount to get a total of 3273.25 with a 3820qm and cf 7970's. Unless anyone wants to grab me one with their Aafes discount ;)

Why a 3720? Isn't that much slower? Thanks.

    Intel® Core™ i7-3820QM, 8MB L3 Cache, 2.7-3.7GHz

the different is maybe 5%, I just don't think it's worth the $200 asking price.

Best quote I could get was $204.00 bucks off & free next day shipping. Not to bad I guess. Would of liked to get a longer warranty, but didn't have the room in the budget at the moment. I'll probably extend my warranty at a later date.

How many years of warranty do you guys normally choose?

I'm thinking about 3 years advanced warranty.

    Should I do 4 years?

I did 4 and I'm so glad I did. But, 3 years of advanced warranty is awesome.

It used to be two 3870s. Until one decided that it no longer wanted to live. I'm in a really weird state right now with no ATi drivers installed (just the base Windows ones left on there) because that leaves the slave card off, and the performance appears to be fine on the single card without drivers.

As for the price, well, even at the standard price on the HIDEvolution website, with the shipping and import tax to the UK, it still works out several hundred pounds cheaper than getting one in the UK. And I'm hoping it'll be finished and delivered to me while I'm still in the Middle East...even cheaper then thanks to the much lower import tax.

On that topic, what's the general EDD people are getting on 7970M machines? I hope it's not too long, I'm worried that my M17's primary GPU will go as well any day now...

I would say to anyone who's going to purchase an Alienware machine...make sure you extend the warranty to as long as you plan on using it for. Yes, the extended warranties are expensive. But so is a GPU replacement, and these machines have relatively high failure rates (any high performance gaming machine does, don't let that put you off buying one).

Also, I can't wait to see some real numbers showing what the 7970Ms can do. Although, if what we know now is correct, it's going to be a case of 'max everything out' :D
