Hello fellow Alienware owners![]()
I've asked Dell for extending my warranty on the M18x R2 (The one in my signature), and after almost 2 months i've finally heard back from them.
I'd like to know if the prices seem fair to you:
- 1 more year (end date 1. dec. 2017) 256€
- 2 more years (end date 5. nov. 2018) 492€
(both basic warranty)
Consider that the warranty doesnt cover:
- CPU (installed later)
- SSD and HDDs (mfg warranty 4.5 years left)
- RAM (mfg lifetime warranty)
and i'm still waiting for them to confirm that the warranty will cover GPU's (wich were a replacement for 7970M's by Dell US)
Side question, any AW rep still active on the forum that could help me out with this last part?

Know this: Dell has no parts to service the M18x R2, and will replace it with a Alienware 17 R3 or an Alienware 18 (if available in your region)
Not worth it imo.Mr. Fox likes this. -
Really? not even the motherboards or GPUs?
Well if that's the case i'll opt out of the warranty, i dont want that crippled ****...
Guess i'll stock up parts (mobo + gpu) for if the need be i can swap it out
I especially don't like new laptops coz they only support Win 8 and up -.-
This M18x is staying for a long time.Mr. Fox likes this. -
If they replace your machine to AW18 you will be dissapointed. Locked BIOS, cpu power limits, 100W power limit and so on. Not even mentioning puke-making design.

I think you should get warranty. I'm sure they will come out with new design on their next revision , along with the new hardware. Only time will tell.

I want the option to choose the OS not just be stuck with Win 8/10 BS or Linux... -

Alienware 18? i've heard everything is soldered... ouch maybe it was AW 17 xD
Still, don't want to have it replaced. -
Nope, Alienware 17 and 18 have sockets and slots, but they have a BIOS crippled by Secure Flash that cannot be unlocked like the models before them.
The 17R2, 15, 13 and newer Alienwares are the ones with soldered BGA crap.maxslo likes this. -

I know Dell technicians that are still doing warranty services on M18xR1, R2 and M17xR4's - No shortage of parts here (AU)
One of my friends who's a Dell tech just changed out 2 x AMD6990's and a M18xR1 motherboard for a customer - All from Dell and all under warranty.maxslo likes this. -
Well they told me they have parts here aswell
.. so extension it is

Hahaha, fistly i don't think they exchange LCD because of one dead pixel xD... it has to be 5 or more afaik...
And secondly i'm in EU and you are in the US, the shipping costs alone would not be worth it imo
