I am using CF 6990 for skyrim..but only get about 30 frames per second AT BEST?
Is something wrong? Default Ultra settings...seems rather low.
I am using FRAPS to record FPS.
Anyone know of solution?
CF is enabled.

Dear flash,
I do have xfire enabled and mainly in the large OPEN world areas when i have max distance and everything set to max..does it hover around 30 frames per second (is this normal). When I am in a more enclosed dungeone i'm capped between 50 - 60.
thx for alt tab tip -
What drivers is everyone using? Decided to get 12.1 and CAP1.
-
what does CAP1 mean? sorry i dont' know lol
-
-
Went from 11.9 CAP4 to 12.1 and Cap1 (11.12) and Skyrim was BUTTER smooth. I really like the ATi profiles in it as well the new setting for Crossfire, but can anyone explain those such as 1x1 Optimization?
-
Can someone confirm that the driver version in 12.1 is 8.93.10? Just trying to make sure that I got the most current one after so many dirty updates.

Awesome, thanks!

What configuration are you using in Skyrim?
Ultra with a higher ugridstoload and fxaa? -
-
Ultra settings with 12.1 drivers and Cap 1. Smooth as a new box of butter...

what fps are you guys getting with 580 sli?

With my 580's, I am seeing indoor FPS of around 40-45 and outdoor about 45-50 (this is with every option set to maximum/ultra, running at 1920x1200, FXAA enabled and detail levels set to ultra with distant object detail checked also under advanced game options) - also includes some tweaking to the .ini to enable maximum (high quality) Ambient Occlusion and a few other "eye candy" extras. Running at a mild gpu OC too and cpu set to level 3). With these settings, its smooth and very beautiful scenery too....havent seen a dip below 35fps. Check out the spoiler below for settings used from the following two threads:
Guides: Five Fast Skyrim Tweaks Guaranteed To Make Your Game Look Better - GeForce - (I applied all of them using Nvidia Inspector btw)
http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/457953-skyrimini-or-skyrimprefsini-confused/ - (did this one to reduce mouse lag and also remove vsync capping)
The game runs really well, gpu temps stay around 72c and it looks beautiful too ! - I guess I could reduce some settings and enjoy a higher frame rate but I prefer the eye candy over 80-90fps. -
What drivers are you all using for AMD cards?

The only flicker I get is when swimming in the water but that's no prob.

Anyone tested out the new 1.4 beta patch yet ?
-
For Skyrim this is? Didn't know there was one. What does it have?
-
Anyone know how to fix this yellowish green screen flicker that only occurs on the menu ingame?

Why did you downgrade to the 6970s? I'm curious why anyone would do that. -
And put his originals back in
-
I was going to sell my machine and put the originals back. But couldn't force myself to list the beast in the marketplace. This laptops is a keeper
And now, I'm too lazy to put the 6990s back. Will do when there's a game I can't max out.
-
If you ever want to sell those 6990s I'm your man
Depending on price of course

I spent hours the other night trying to get Skyrim to run smoothly on xfire but I didn't get anywhere. I installed the new skyrim 1.4 beta patch & new drivers AMD just released, hoping it would fix the xfire stutter/lag issue, sadly they seem no closer. I've disabled xfire now and run the game on ultra but with aa disabled and fxaa enabled, it runs smoothly 90% of the time.
In all honesty, i'm beginning to give up hope AMD will ever fix the xfire stutter/lag issue, the games been out now for 3 months and it really should have been sorted by now, maybe they just can't fix it. -
I can really recommend this. Nothing short of absolutely amazing. Grab it from Steam for free:
Skyrim: High Resolution Texture Pack (Free DLC)
Experience The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as you’ve never seen it before with the Skyrim High-Resolution Texture Pack. Make sure your system requirements exceed Skyrim’s recommended specs before attempting to install, including Windows Vista or 7 operating system, a minimum of 4GB of system RAM and a DirectX 9.0c compatible NVIDIA or AMD ATI video card with at least 1 GB of RAM and the latest drivers.

Great stuff! - I just noticed too that the HRTP was available for free DLC. Gonna get on it shortly and see how much of an improvement it makes! - this game has gotta be one of my favourites (if not THE favourite, its soooo involving - I just LOVE it !!!
-
-
and I forgot to add that selecting and starting this install will initiate a 3.1 Gb download from Steam ... just in case anyone is on a limited download plan
It's not really apparant from the Steam screen that it must be near the entire game that'll be downloaded -

- gotta get some more hours in LOL - best part so far for me was buying breezehome and getting it for free by stashing the 5000 gold in whassisface's (proventus avvenici's) cupboard during the transaction...SWEET!! hahahahaha

-
Figured out where the extra 3.1 Gb come from. This is a quote from PcGamer:
The pack adds three gigabytes worth of sharpened surfaces, which should hopefully clean up some of Skyrim’s smeary walls and blurry rock textures. I quickly booted it up to have a look, but was stabbed by a barbarian while I was busy pushing my face into a wall
hehee
PS
"Bethesda recommend the mod to those with “a minimum of 4GB of system RAM and a DirectX 9.0c compatible NVIDIA or AMD ATI video card with at least 1 GB of RAM and the latest drivers.”
Not a problem for us then :-D -
WOW is all i have to say about the HD pack
... i watched some videos online highlighting the hd pack and they cant see a difference... but you can see it everywhere, shadows are 2-3x better, trees are 10x better, and everything just pops out more, i even restarted my guy just because i got a legit steam copy
and the price cant be beat.
-
Wow I am downloading the HD pack right now...
I noticed a HUGE FPS imporvement in skyrim. I dunno if it's the new driver from AMD or the patch 1.4. My cards was running at 40%-50% each and now they run at 80%+ each!!!! No more need of SkyBoost since it is not compatible with the new patch.
I can now fully benefit of my m18x performance -
-
I'm using the 12.2 preview drivers and playing on max with no issues. -
-
Aikimox, I notice in your sig you are running 16gb of 1866 ram in your m18x. Does this show up in cpuz correctly? I recently purchased my m18x with8gb of 1866 ram, only cpuz shows it clocked at 666.7(1333). Changing the settings in the bios does nothing, I've called support and they weren't able to fix this issue either, in fact I'm waiting to hear back from them.
Sorry for the off topic post. -
Here you go.

If you still get low fps, try enabling the ATI bar with RadeonPro to see GPU % load. -
