Depends which r3 you go with. The 6970 version has 2xUSB3.0, HDMI IN, Sata 3, and Sandy bridge as well. It does lack the tactx buttons, subwoofer(kinda big for some, i'll just be using udac+bose headphones), aluminum (big one, I may not like that old design as much, but build quality is VERY important), 12 cell battery, etc.

Two different markets, people are just angry that dell charges such a premium on the price on upgrades, after a premium on the system itself

490 pounds for xfire gives me hope that the US price will be $500-$600.

The UK prices seem the most reasonable so far.

I like how their starting price is 1698 pounds...Let's hope for a 1699 or 1799 starting price too.

Dell might have finally listened to our crying. On a serious note, Dell might be using this to quell the hatred towards the price and I think it might be fair to assume the US prices will be between the UK just "leaked" prices and the US ones originally "leaked". Since we didn't fall for the $900 dollar xfire upgrade I think it might end up being around $750-$850. I doubt dell would price the m18x at anything below $1999.99 and that it would be a miracle if lower since we have to calculate upgrading to the 2720qm since the 2620qm is a questionable choice for the more serious gamer.

You are far too hopeful I would say, starting price definitely won't be less than $1999 I'm afraid :(

If it isn't up on the site when is the next expected date; I need a lappy nao! The only thing holding me back from the M14x is the seemingly impending release of the M18x.

If it makes your decision easier, dell usually doesn't let you cancel your order after it goes into production. The only exception is if they delay it, which they have to give you the option to cancel.

If it doesn't get delayed, they usually make you return it and pay up to 15% of the original purchase price + restocking fees I believe.

I'd be a little surprised at this point if it's not available for order early next week considering the prep that appears to be happening.

    UK£ 490 = 818.79 U.S. dollars

But then again, the base price definitely shows the overseas markup:
    UK£ 1 698.99 = 2 839.01 U.S. dollars

Or would that be the Value Added Tax? I remember ten, twenty years ago Congress floated the idea of a VAT here in the US.

My R3 is basically the same as yours. Depending on the final price, I will either keep it or return for the M18X.

If you order a new computer you won't have to pay the 15%. I had to argue with them all across India for hours about that.

    Would be nice.
They do. Just configured what I want for about 2900. If I could get it for that USD. I'd be all over it. I still hope to come in at about 3000-3200USD. Hope!!!!!

Japanese M18x config website is up. Still no sign of 485m or any other display option beyond the WLED.

    Wild speculation on my behalf:

    [SPECULATE][WILD]

The Crossfire 6970 price was always between US $500-$600. What we were seeing on the US config website as the crossfire 6970 price was the remnants of the price for the 485m SLI which was removed for whatever reason.

    460M--->Sli ($375)--->xfire ($522)

    Seems reasonable.

    Hmmm...roughly £3400gbp for the UK spec I would want (xm2920/500xt hdd/base ram/dual 6970's/2yr warranty/blu ray/Intel wifi/bluetooth)

Could save a few quid on the blu ray and hdd but tbh, at £30 xtra for the XT over base, its a no brainer and £80 over base for the blu ray makes sense....ram I would do later.

My only "gasp" was £850 extra over base for the XM...£500 over base for the 2820...kind of in line I guess as when I got my R2, the 840qm was £450 over base and the 940XM was actually £880 over base.

LIkelihood of these SB XM's popping up on Ebay? - slim to none I would imagine.....

Gonna have to have a word or to with my business rep to see what deal he could cut me....

Who wants to buy a hardly used UK R2 as per sig LOLOLOLOL

If the rumors are true about the 580m coming out in the summer then how powerful do you think it will be. I believe the 6970m is a 6850 underclocked and the 485m is about a 560ti? Will the 580m be around an underclocked desktop 570? At CES Nvidia did state that the 485m wouldn't be replaced for some time so a June/July release doesn't look promising.

    GTX 485m is a GF104 chip, it's a souped up GTX 460 desktop card.

GTX 580m will probably be the GF114 aka the Geforce 560 GTX Ti. It will smash the GTX 485m and the 6970.

Ahhh the circular waiting game rears its head again... I've waited long enough for the M18X as it is. Then we're supposed to wait another 3 months for the 'next' greatest gfx card only to see that trumped in another 6 months etc etc etc...

CF 6970's will be more than adequate for me!
