Just wondering.....has ANYONE been able to download and install 11.6 drivers DIRECT from AMD? - for the life of me, I cant get stuff from their site to work on my machine....just keep getting the message that I dont have an AMD adaptor or some crap like that......

I have had 11.6 installed via Guru3D but wondered if anyone had any luck via AMD and if so, wether you could post up a link?

    TIA

I have no issues using reference drivers. Also, I never had installed Dells driver from a fresh windows install, maybe that is messing with it even after you have removed and cleaned from the stock driver.

This is on a new system - Im still on Dell drivers on this one and before I mess with it, I want to see if anyone has managed to install them via AMD directly....just out of curiosity (and for preparing for my clean install soon).

I reverted back to Dell drivers...was experiencing higher temps with the 11.6.

I've had a bit of history with Ati Mobility cards and laptops with non standard display drivers. Usually all the problems stem from residual registry entries left behind by the manufacturer driver. I ordered my laptop on the 15th June so until it arrives i cant say much more. can anyone tell me how long they are taking to arrive when ordered in Uk. Ive checked my status but still say in progress

did you use a registry clean up program or regedit and looked manually. key words to look for could be whatever alienware call their driver or radeon. also did you auto tune your card within Ati control panel as sometimes this can cause issues too. i always restore default on autotune or manual clock changes.

I imagine registry cleaning was done using Ccleaner's built-in registry "cleaning" tool - you can use it and back up changes should you wish to , very simply with a single click as it saves a file to your documents folder incase you wanna revert any registry changes you make with Ccleaner.

hmmm I went up to 11.6 with no issues but now I'm not getting any sound when I use my WirelessHD

Did the HD audio driver not get installed? Where on the AMD site is that?

    Thanks!

For people going this route, do you guys notice that you now have two displays set up in your resolution settings?

My m17x sets the 6970 to monitor 2 and the Intel Graphics to monitor 1. It still puts my desktop on one screen, but I can move my mouse all the way to the left, and it keeps going (Versus when it hits the end of the screen ,and you can still see the outline of it just a bit to let you know it's there.)

I'm having driver issues too... I re-read this thread, downloaded the 11.6 drivers from the Guru3d link, along with CC Cleaner.

Uninstalled the Dell Drivers, booted to Safe Mode, ran the reg cleaner. Ran the 11.6 installer but it doesn't actually seem to install the drivers. When I run CCC it tells me "Your computer doesn't contain a proper graphics card"... what kind of message is that!?

Edit: I can install the 11.5b package. The difference seems to be when I try to install 11.6, even from a clean (safe mode, CCleaner cleaned) install, it doesn't offer to install the actual graphics driver component. Weird...

For anyone having issues with Windows Aero bugging out on them, the latest Intel update for the Sandy Bridge IGP seems to resolve it. You can download it here or read about the testing I subjected it to here. Obviously, follow the instructions at the start of this thread. You need to be in IGP mode to apply the update correctly.

Hi everybody, I received my m18x and I tried to install the new driver from AMD 11-6, but when I try to install it I can't see the display driver in the list... Anyone found a solution for this issue?

Edit: I searched a little bit more on google and I found a link to another driver and it works.

Disappointing as Nvidia drivers won't download from the Nvidia site either. Sounds like it works slightly better for the AMD drivers, but slightly.

I'm continuing to follow this thread to see if the 6990's would be better.

I've followed all of the instructions in this and other threads - and i think all i've managed to do is cripple my M18X. I can't remember the Windows Experience Index numbers before I did the fresh reload, but they sure suck now. I installed 16GB of memory and put in an Intel SSD. I made a clone of the old system and ran that for a while to make sure none of the new hardware would suffer from infant mortality
Since putting a fresh install of Windows 7 using the supplied OEM disc, my WEI numbers are great for everything except video performance - and even my games don't feel as zippy as they did before.
    Processor: 7.5
    Memory: 7.6
    Graphics 5.8
    Gaming Graphics: 6.3
    Primary Hard Disk: 7.6

I've used every version of the driver i can find from 11.6 thru 11.8 and i installed everything in the order of the "fresh install" thread.

I ran into a similar problem with my clean install and I used all of the drivers from Dell's web site except for Catalyst 11.8. Downloading and installing Intel's latest (not Dell version) Sandy Bridge chipset and HD 3000 drivers over the top of those provided by Dell fixed everything. Now both of my WEI scores on graphics are 7.7.

You must have an M17x R3 because the M18x does not allow the Intel IGP and discreet GPUs to function simultaneously. The Intel display adapter is invisible to the system when CFX is active and vice versa.

As far as downloading the packages go, Guru3D's forum threads have pages for each of the release increments.
This is their link for the 11.7s

The Mobility driver ends with "_dd_ccc_ocl" are the ony ones that i can get to intsall - as they recognize the cards and the package seems to install the drivers.

I'm just presuming that since I'm using mobility 6970Ms in my M18X, that I need the mobility driver. But with all the issues i'm having - I just wanted to make sure..... So i guess the question is - is this REALLY the right driver package?

Yes, it is. However, Dell has released new video drivers and they are the best ones to use at the moment. If you use that package you will not have any display brightness controls.

Is there a specific step by step guide to installing the AMD reference drivers?

My machine is as is out of the box, I'm not ready to do a reinstall of the OS because I'm waiting a few months before I purchase my SSD. Probably christmas time.

Can I just uninstall the dell driver, and install ATI reference?

I'm worried about CC cleaner as it was responsbile for a 3 hour slog in upgrading to SP1. The SP1 installer decided my OS install was bad because CC cleaner had removed some important registry entries.

Do we know what the current Dell driver is based on?

Its down to preference really mate, alot of people just install over the old ones....i prefer a bit more "cleaning" and I havent had any issues using Ccleaner (for registry) and Driver Sweeper (for AMD Display only) from safe mode after uninstallation of the old driver.

Once ive done that, I just install the previously downloaded driver of choice and Catalyst Application Profiles too....

drifter - I had only good results with Dell drivers up until the final version of 11.8 was released. The 11.8 preview produced BSOD and other issues. Have you tried 11.8 WHQL?

If you are getting a message that your video card is not supported, use the tab on the AMD web site for "Individual Downloads" (middle tab) rather that the one labeled "AMD Catalyst Packages" (far left tab) because it does not work properly. It's some sort of download manager that does not recognize our cards. ATI Catalyst Mobility Display Driver This is the driver I am currently using.

Thanks, Steve. It was not anywhere nearly as terrible as it could have been. We definitely dodged a big bullet on this one. There is plenty of damage on the East Coat, but we are very fortunate the weather predictions were not accurate.

I've asked about this site before but i was totally ignored. xD

Please, PLEASE, tell me exactly how you reached that driver. I don't want to reach it through google, but through the actual site its in.

These drivers are the only ones that work perfectly with me. Individual downloads or the drivers through AMD's gaming tab are hit-or-miss.

    Thanks in advance!

I can't get any package to install except the Dell one. Only the Dell package detects and installs GPU drivers. I don't understand this.

I've tried all the different packages, with and without uninstalling, rebooting.

There is no reason to use the 11.8 Preview because it has already been released in WHQL (final) form and that works better than the preview release.

Its a good idea to scrub the system with Driver sweeper to prevent any remnants from the older driver/CCC package.

Being upto date with the latest WHQL driver is the best way to go forward rather than waiting on a preview to go gold in a few versions time.

Ok it hasnt worked. It installed ok, but hasnt done anything. Rebooted and still low resolution and starting CCC says "CCC cannot be started. There are currently no settings that can be configured using CCC"

    Any ideas?

I wonder if there is a driver in the link I specified above...do you have to download the driver seperatly?

The download is roughly 80MB but shouldnt it be in the 140MB mark?

Cool. those links work stevie! The link I posted above, everything installed fine apparently, but there was no "Display Driver" under the custom install menu...

I notice that your provided links end in ocl.exe? What does that mean I wonder?

    Anyway BFBC2 works nice.

    Off to try deus ex....

Shame ATI didnt manage to put the fix for Rage and BF3 i nto the same driver preview!
