Is your crossfire not working at all on some games DumbDumb? I have been using crossfire for all the games I have been playing, I just get huge fps drops randomly then they go right back up to normal.
-
-
-
Yeah, I am just using the 12.5 beta drivers. I have been playing D3, Metro2033, BF3 and The Witcher 2. Crossfire is working with all of them and I am not using RadeonPro
-
What fps do you get on Witcher 2 and.BF3?
Are they both stable? -
BF3 can be anywhere from 80-90fps with random drops to 40-45 fps then back to 80 or 90. I am getting between 70 and 80 in The Witcher 2 with everything on max except for ubersampling. Even with two 7970m's and a heavy overclock I can't get over 25fps with it on.
-
-
weird thing is that when i enable ubersampling on witcher 2 im getting about 30fps ? how do u get 25 ? that is weird. -
Drivers are super important and even with massive power performance can suffer with drivers that don't work well. The 7970M is new and should work a whole lot better as properly-working drivers are released. It's almost certain that the drivers are causing the poor performance.
-
I'm hoping so Mr.Fox. Like I said, the games seem to run fine and then all of a sudden take a huge fps hit.

6990M Crossfire Guide

Pandasplooge, below is a description of the tweak that I offered that seems to be helping some 7970M CF owners that are having performance issues. I used to do this all the time with 6970M CF and 6990M CF on the previous M18x I had. This made the AMD GPUs perform a lot better.
-
Yeah, I tried that when it was posted quite a while back actually. It seemed to help for a while but I am still getting weird fps drops. I hope it's related to drivers and not something to do with my cards throttling or something.

Hello Guys i have just received my R2, well my bad luck its contain some cosmetic and chassis problems. But i have another question about screen resolution, as its not 1080p resolution like windows are far bigger then it used to be, but when ive check in system resolution it says 1080p but its not? i dont know how to fix it. right now screen resolution looks like 1280 x 720:S

Well after reading this thread I have mixed emotions about the 7970. I wanted to purchase these cards however they would not allow me to. They flat out told me they wouldn't sell them to me.
As you stated on page 15 I believe, I was told The M18X R1 will not support the 7970.
This is per Alienware Department and I Quote
"What I explained is that the 6990 or NVIDIA 580 was what we could upgrade for your system , that other Card (7970) is for the second revision of the m18x only, What you just ordered is the highest upgrade that you can do for your system. I believe the problem is that your are watching the specs for the new system not the right model."
I have to say, what the freaking hell. My "Model" is just over a year old (And that's at pre-order) and I'm already being told I cant get the latest video cards. *sigh
And
"unfortunately there is no way for us to sell those new video cards that you see on-line for your system since , the one that you are checking is a different model of what you got. The upgrades available for your system are either to buy: A secondary Nvidia 460 SLI, A set of 2 Nvidia 580s SLI Or A set of 2 ATI 6990M Crossfire, These are the only options available for video card performance and upgrade."
Also
"as per engineering direct order there might be critical failures if we mix video cards within revisions or models"
So they charge me $1250 for a set of 6990's. Supposedly throwing in free installation and a extended 1 year warranty on my system. After reading what you payed for the 7970's I'm feeling ripped off. -
if its in the time frame for returns id return it also and then just upgrade to the r2.. but thats way to much to pay for those cards imo. -

My last paycheck was higher than I expected, so I was considering upgrading to 7970M CF....but after reading through 48 pages of fun, I think I'll wait for 680M SLI

Hacker,
Why dont you send Allan an email over on the following thread - maybe he can help out with your upgrade as the thread does say its for that aswell....maybe he can get you 7970m for the R1 or maybe just a cheaper price on 580m/6990m....

For me is says a file is corrupt in that driver package
-
Someone please condense this for me: I just ordered x2 7970's for my r2 m18x, upgrading from a pair of 560m's - am I in for a world of pain or what?
-
look there is some driver troubles but for the most part you wont be able to tell....imo... but i might be wrong.. I love the cards despite the driver issues..
there awesome! -
-
Dell keeps delaying my order, for unoptomized games like GTA IV I assume I will be having a hell of a time getting these cards to play nice. Max payne 3 hopefully.. gives no issues. on my 560m SLI I can run crysis + dx 11 all max with additional mods at full frame rate. I have high expectations for the 7970's..

THE 7970s are beasts..plain and simple.. we got screwed this time around for the driver release.. but what we have for the moment will get us by!
when proper drivers are released we will see the true potential of these cards..
i think ati finally said look we got a good thing here.. and we need to make it better.. so they are going to do a proper set of drivers.. so when they do release..we shall see the Demon come out of these cards and the desktop 7900 series for that matter.. -
Do you guys actually play any games that take advantage of 7970M CrossFireX today or are they too crippled by drivers? I'm mostly interested in BF3 and Diablo III...
-
I tried Battlefield 3 on Xfire and it is so beast. It has super high FPS. Super smooth. In fact, Battlefield 3 is a lot smoother than Crysis 1 on Crossfire.
Now if anyone can give me tips on how to run Crysis 1 better, that would be great. -
Forgive me, but without having to read through this enormous thread is it possible to purchase the 7970Ms for the M18xR1 currently or are supplies still very limited?

Ok, so i tested some guys in my M18x with FPS on screen using MSI afterburner(thanks to Mr. Fox +1 rep to you and Speedy Gonzales + 1 rep to you as well).
BF 3 - i played multiplayer. I get like 70 to 98 fps max settings.
Crysis 2 - constant 71 to 61 fps max settings but sometimes it goes to 45 fps if it is too much action.
I will try Batman Arkham City now. -
Ok, 60.1 fps to 53 fps on Batman Arkham City. Stable but sometimes it drops 35fps or 43 fps for 1 sec then shoots back to 60.1 fps.
I will try Skyrim now. -

I agree, Speedy. Dx11 for Batman is broken. There is no difference as well between DX11 for this game anyway. I'll try disabling DX11.

Batman AC plays fine for me in DX11 maxed out.
