    hello,

i have searched for this but i keep finding thread about blue screen of death (std windows blue screen with info)

here is a picture of my blue screen!

    m18x-weirdblue.jpg

computer skype chat would still work but i can't do anything else

it happened couple of time playing minecraft (trough it was isolated to minecraft so i changed texture e.t.c)

but it just happened while browsing steam store ... so its not related directly with minecraft ?

the thing is that i've never seen that kind of blue screen before , and i am a computer technician ....

any help or pointer would be greatly appreciated !

What drivers are you using? It may be a driver issue.... have you tried installing a different set of drivers?

If you've got 7970M video cards, you can join our exclusive club. A bunch of us have seen the striped screen thing. I haven't seen your "blue sky" screen yet, but I have seen plenty of black screen lockups, and I saw a bright red screen with a system freeze this morning. That was the first time I had seen that one. Maybe the screen color depends on what you are doing when the problem occurs. Perhaps we should start a new forum group called the NBR Defective 7970M GPU Owner's Group, LOL.

I know what you mean, but to be fair it's only the AMD video cards, not Alienware's computer, that has issues. I have the same awesome M18x that I had before the 7970M was concocted by AMD. I know it will be as good or better than it ever was once the impediment is removed.

when i bought this m18x i saw that the 680m was so expensive... still ,, i guess i should of taken the 680m.

    on other note...
i can play l4d2 without problem ... but if i host a game l4d2 crash , then m18x freeze.... as a computer tech , I've seen lots of stuff. but this laptop act weird ,and since its as laptop i can't swap part and test... like you said it could just be the 7970m immature driver .... i hope so.. because legally i have like what 3 month to ask for an exchange or anything... this make me really sad (kid dream of alienware destroyed? )!!

Yes, it's a terrible shame that AMD's incompetence and lack of regard for customer experience is ruining your childhood dream of owning an Alienware. That is why I made a special point of mentioning it's the AMD video cards and not Alienware's computer.

My M18x was the closest thing to a flawless dream machine that I had ever owned when it still had NVIDIA cards in it, so there is still hope your dream can have a happy ending.

LOL! Maybe it's based on what emotions you're feeling like one of those mood rings? His was blue so he must have been feeling down and the cards picked up on it. Man AMD just keeps surprising us with these awesome new "features".

OP: You might have faulty cards or a loose display connection.

The colorful lockups are all AMD signatures... I'v had a 5870m/6970m and now 7970m and have seen plenty of those colorful lockups... It can be anything.... I'm with Mr. Fox... AMD needs to really step up with their product....
