Hi,
I have a M18xR2 and I have issue with the 7970M crossfire. Both cards are detected, I can enable the crossfire in the catalyst panel, but games crash at launch, or when they start, I get flickering.
I am on Windows 10 x64 with the latest catalyst drivers (17.4.2), and both cards have Dell UEFI vbios 015.022.000.001.
Tests performed :
- I swapped the cards mutliple times, and they both work alone
- I bought an other crossfire cable and the issue is the same whatever the connected cable
- I disassembled the M18xR2 several times to adjust crossfire cable connexion making sure that the ends are properly connected. Whatever the connected cable, I always get flickering when ends are properly connected. If ends are not properly connected, I can't enable crossfire.
GPU-Z show that crossfire is enabled :

What is the probability that both crossfire cable are broken ?
If the issue has nothing to do with the crossfire cable, what could be the problem ?
If you have some idea or suggestion, I thank you !

17.4.2 drivers have broken crossfire support in many games and they would either produce a black screen or crash with Crossfire enabled (in Windows 10 1703, not sure if earlier ones, but it's worth a shot). Try 17.4.3 instead, it should work with those.
Be sure to use the latest version of Display Driver Uninstaller to clean 17.4.2 completely from your system before installing 17.4.3 drivers as well to ensure that no remnants from the bugged driver remain on the system. -
Hi,
Thank you for your answer.
I have Windows 10 x64 with last Creator Update, but I had the issue with multiple versions of catalyst driver (from 15.* to 17.*) and always get flickering. I can't manage to install the 17.4.3 drivers, I get error 1603 and I don't know why.
I have A11 Bios and I see that you have a M18xR2 with 2* 7970m and A12 bios.
As far as I can remember, I never enjoy the crossfire on Windows 10. The last time i Enjoyed it was on Windows 7, but I have UEFI vbios, I try all catalyst version from 15.* to 17.*, I swapped GPU, i swapped crossfire cable, and with all configurations I always get the same flickering.
So I really don't understand what is happening.
Edit : I can confirm that I always use last version of DDU in safe mode before installing new drivers.Last edited: Apr 23, 2017 -
have you tried making a small partition on the drive and install win7 on it? make sure its not an OS / Driver related...
by swapping gpu, do you mean you just changed the positions or have you actually replaced the cards, and same goes for cf cable, have you just turned it the other way or have you tried another cable?

Hi,
Thank you for your answer.
I move the primary GPU to secondary slot and the secondary gpu to primary slot many times, and I have two crossfire cables like describe in my first post.
The two cards work fine alone, and the crossfire is always enabled with any of the two cables.
At the moment, I can't test on windows 7, I only have a full 256GB msata. -
unless you actually try a different card there os always a chance it migh be one or both of the gpus that cause problems in cf...
