I bought my M18x_R1 back in 2011, running fine with little to no problems. Looking to rebuild it, but want to buy new/bigger SSDs for it (in the 1TB range). Might want to change from raid(zero) to no raid at all and have 2TB of local storage. Basically, I'm wanting to know if SSD's are SSD's are SSD's (swap 'em, install OS/drivers and away we go!)?? I have been doing searches here on 'NR' for this kind of question with no good answers yet found. I've been paging back, current back 21 pages, as well, looking for some helpful insight.

Been looking at the Samsung 850 EVO 1TB SSD (or Pro)... anyone have experience with such a move?
    Recommendations for a different/better SSD?

I have checked out this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/intel-730-ssds-anybody-using-them-in-there-laptop.759291
    And this one: http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...ve-for-an-ssd-but-i-need-some-pointers.761527
    And this one: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/installed-new-hard-drives-problem.760907

Any reason, if I go this route and the 1TB SSD's work, that I couldn't reinstall from the Alienware Respawn?

    Appreciate any/all feedback.

The SSD is fine and yes they all behave the same when it comes to installing them. Since you are on an ssd now you could just image your current install and swap it over.

This is true, you shouldn't have much issues to install it.

Much thanks, Meaker and Alienware-L_Porras. Appreciate the answers from you both.

Another question. When I'd gotten the laptop, one of the very first things I did was build the 3 alienware respawn DVD's. I know I can use them to boot up with and redo the existing drives... will they also work for the two new 1TB drives I've got on the way?

Ok... Amazon delivered my new Samsung 850 EVO drives.
Currently downloading apps, drivers, firmware and bios from Dell's site.

Yes you should be able to restore to the new drives since the system is the same.
