With my stable 4.1 GHz overclock, if I switch to battery mode I notice the speed jump from 4.1 GHz to 1998 MHz back and forth........ what gives?
here are my XTU settings:

Isn't... isn't that normal? Try to do a stress test on battery and see if that happens there too. Mine shows the clocks always at full speed (on idle) even through the temps are not increasing, etc.

All laptops have a limit on battery. There is only so much power a battery can provide.

As @TBoneSan said battery just can't give you 330W power as you power supply gives to maintain clocks

Hey Matrix Leader6, looks like you're having a lot of fun with your laptop. As others have hinted to, the battery on these beasts isn't good for anything other than menial tasks like watching a movie or browsing the web. You may get 10 - 15 minutes of degraded gaming on the battery, which you're beating the hell out of in the process.

no issues it's on my desk 99.9% of the time anyway

Correct. The battery can't stand up to that kind of a power draw. It is more of an insurance policy in my opinion.

Yeah, I can get between 4.5 - 5.0 hours running on Intel HD Graphics and no CPU overclock, AlienFX turned off on the M18xR2. I don't need to, and don't really care, but that option is there in the rare event I need to.
My clock speed throttling by 50% on battery
