Here's t he link to the 2-piped HS pics. That HS is huge compared to the single piped one. In addition, it has a copper radiator (mine's aluminum).

As for your question, after changing the clocks, you need to select the apply permanently option found below the bclk settings.

Believe me, I've tried that already. Just did it again right now to make sure. I changed the bclk, selected apply permanently and as soon as I hit OK to confirm everything skips back to default with the basic bclk and option apply immediatlely selected. Must be something else that's stopping it. Maybe the 2630qm or the basic ram, I dno, I'm all out of ideas.

My system also came with a 2630Qm and basic ram and it was still possible to OC'. Did you try small increments?

I tried it all, increments with 1, with 10 etc, even tried lowering it lol.
Everytime again it skips back to default.

Hi guys, I overclocked my GPU to 850/1050, but when I reboot my computer it reset to default. Anyone know why ? I'm using Trixx. I can't see a button named like "apply permanently" or "save settings".

Put a check mark in the box to apply clock settings at startup. It's like the second or third checkbox down from the top. You can also save stock and OC profiles on the "tab" where you change clock settings. I do not have access to my M18x right now or I would post a screen shot for you.

wait so we can OC the GPU's without flashing VIA USB? Is this something new? I always thought the programs only OC for the time you have the computer on? Wow I am completely behind technology. How is the OC room on the 6970s and how are the temps? Anyone OC and run 24/7 for gaming?

Yes, with Sapphire Trixx... take a look here on Tech|Inferno. Having no issues with heat... consistently running under 80°C during benchmarks. The GPUs throttle down when not under load, so the OC is not 24/7. The clocks ramp up when needed, sort of like the TurboBoost on the CPU. No need to mess with the vBIOS. A safe starting point on the GPU OC is 800/1100 and you can test incrementally upward from there.

You should download the newer version of the Intel IGP driver and install that as well as AMD Catalyst 11.6. I recommend you review this thread on the aero issues. A good starting point is here if you're in a hurry and don't want to read the entire thread.

Quick question. I'm a newbie at benching. I have the basic rig. no upgrades but a bump up to 6 gigs. i have the 460m and the stock CPU. My scores are below. Is this normal or should my scores be higher ?

Those scores are way too low, friend. Are you running on the Intel IGP or 460m SLi? The scores look like the IGP.

If so, that's a good example of a reason to have a forum signature. At any rate, the 3DMark11 scores are still too low and something is not set correctly.

Seems about right for a single 460m. The igp scores around 2100 in vantage for me so I would expect sub-1000 in '11. Why 6 gigs of ram? You're selling yourself short by not running in dual channel.

Here is a thread on the R3 with the NVIDIA 460 GPU that may be more relevant to your system performance if you have a single 460m GPU. As requested previously, please create a signature with basic specs for your system. Below are a couple of quotes from that thread.

I stand corrected... see below. Thanks for clarifying, Nick.

Been having a bit of a bash....still on 11.5b Hotfix. Here's a '06 run for ya Reborn....mild cpu OC and no gpu OC.

    3dMark06 27270

I didnt push much more on mark'11 as I think I had got to my gpu limit of 850/1200.....I could try the cpu a bit more but havent messed with that too much yet....I scored 7880 on Mark'11 (for some reason, my score shows as belonging to rafix73!! but you can tell its mine 'cos of my HDD which I STILL havent changed over to my SSD yet lol)

lol? I didn't know that man, how funny. Your nice 7880 is what pushed me into trying to improve my former 7829. That's when I scored 7883. Now it's a bit higher than that, but we're still in the same range. Just like in your case, I can't push the cards more than 845/850 depending on the case, as 3dMark11 crashes in mid-testing. It's kind of disappointing; we are so close to 8k but our 6970s can't get us there.

Yup - its annoying!! how is your cpu setup OC wise for your best run?? - seems to me that blasting the cpu doesnt really do a great deal on this bench.....Im also running without terminating other services....maybe I would get a bit more by stopping some.....Id just like to have broken 8k.... :(

At this point, I don't think that the CPU is of great help. I ran 3dmark11 lots of times, different drivers, with minimal services, Aero off etc, with my CPU overclocked at 4.6. I keep scoring within the range 7800/7900. Beyond 7600 nothing really seems to matters if not the GPU OC. Usually, when I try pushing the core at 850+ before 3dMark11 crashes during the 3rd graphic test -- with mathematical precision, always 5 seconds before it ends -- I sadly see 55/60fps, which if it were to end positively, it would easily be in the 8k range.

The last few days I have tried dozens times with all the conf and OC possible, but it seems the cards won't like their core being pushed too much. Sad.

LOL .... wait wait .... youa re OCing your core by almost 30% ... and you are saying "the cards won't like their core being pushed too much" ...

I think you are pushing pretty damn far and the cards are liking it just fine. :)

lol, point taken . However, I'm not complaining that I can't push my cards at all; I'm glad of their performance in games and everything. What disappoints me is that I can't push them as much as I need to, which would be enough to get the result that is so close in 3dmark11 - 8000 my goal - 7923 my current limit = 77 points. In order to do that I need the cards not to crash during the graphic test, which if I set the core at the needed clock - 850 - never happens. So, that's why for me they can't be pushed "too much"

Temps are fine, GPUs don't throttle, pc is pad-cooled, room temp 75 F, CPU OC'ed 4.6ghz... nothing, after multiple attempts let me get those 77 points. That brings little frustration with the cards, that's all :)

I think ive more or less exhausted possibilities on cracking 8000 for the total score. Done pretty much the same here....cpu to 4.6 and and eeked 855/1210 from my gpu's....few other tweaks and scored just shy of 8k :(

    Soooo close to 8k

You could say that I broke 8k ..... on the gpu score - that was 8063......

Maybe, when I do a clean install on this beast, I will try again...dont wanna fry my hardware!!!

That's a right PITA mate....good ole Dell competence for ya

Thanks for the compliment on the score....its just very annoying not being able to crack 8k hahaha....

My Cpu OC in bios was achieved with the following settings:

    Level 3 OC
    Multipliers set to 44/44/44/44
    BCLK set to 104.60 (104600)

All the PWR limits were left unchanged.

I tried to up the multipliers to 45/45/45/45 with the same BCLK but it wouldnt have it...tried reducing BCLK and increasing, still wouldnt have it.....

Maybe it would if I adjusted the PWR limits but being a noob, I didnt wanna mess too much!

Hi guys, I am new to overclocking. I'm reading this thread for like 1 week. I tried to overclock my 6970m CF to 800/1000 and I can't go further than that and I read all of you going like 850/1050, 850/1150 or 850/1200. Mine just crash on graphic test at 850/1050. Do I need to OC something else to go further?

I'm using Trixx and don't know why when I restart my computer, it reset my OC settings to 800/1000, but it put back my fan control to automatic instead of Custom.

Everyone's cards are different, some are being pushed to like 900/1300

But most seem to hit 800-850 and 1050-1200

That being said, if yours is below this, it just might be your card. Repasting and updating drivers can help ...

How many of you are running CPU/GPU OC 24/7? I know the GPU's only are OC'd when they are being used but how many people use Trixx and have the program boot with the same settings on a daily use? I have never ran videocards OC'd before for the long-term but am debating it now with how easy Trixx is.

I tend to revert back to stock clocks on the gpu when not benching or gaming. I have left a mild OC on the cpu over and above that of level 3 OC...probably me just being lazy not wanting to go into bios each time....

I could be wrong here but I think the only way to OC is to use SetFSB. I think the multipliers are "greyed out" in the non-extreme sandybridge cpu's.......

Its an Cpu OC tool that you can use to manually overclock the front side bus speed. I think it is compatable with 2nd gen cpu's but not 10000% sure....I know others used to use it to OC the non extreme 1st gen Core I7's such as 840qm etc....maybe it isnt compatable with the latest 2nd gen cpu's, im not sure.

    SetFSB 2.0 - Overclock.net - Overclocking.net

This post seems to state that it wont work......
