I'm downloading a bunch of games to run some more tests tonight. Hopefully, we can get a clearer picture of the performance.
-
but we will still need a basis for comparison .... 580 owners ????
-
Running it now, just doesn't let me copy/paste (i get a black screen) give me a couple but the run was 80.2 with the same settings and full stock clocks.
So less than the 6990 in this case. -
Here you go. Stock speeds.
-
-
no you don't..... disable Ani lol
-
I agree with "no you don't." There is not enough difference between the two of your benchmark scores to justify the difference in cost between the CPUs based on this benchmark alone. You could see easily that little bit of variance between two identically spec'd M18x laptops. Not that Red Line would not want a better CPU for other valid reasons, but I thought these were too close to call.
Red Line - I look forward to seeing if you get closer or match with anisotrophic filtering disabled. -
I agree too, xm CPU is not really relevant in Unigine) But in general for 3dmark11/Vantage it's the right upgrade
anyway, got another 0.3 bump with total of 79.2 fps! nice)))
edit: got to do a metro 2033 bench run now! -
only .4 with ani off?? that's weird... I would have thought you would gain at least 3-4 fps.

Thanks for posting that one up Aiki, Im about to do some stock bench runs on my new rig below so that helps out. Im still on Dell Drivers atm and managed to rattle off a quick vantage run with stock cpu/gpu settings. Score was about 23k. How does that compare I wonder....
(That score was prior to putting my 16gb HyperX back in - Ive just done that so will do another run - still on the 320hdd too btw) -
Great, when we are done, let's make a summary of benches (6990MCF vs 580MSLI). BTW, do you have a full version of Just Cause 2 (dx11)?
-
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
No mate. I was wondering if I needed the full version or could just bench it via the demo....
-
Going to run it... as I remember i think I was getting 28-29 FPS with the .26 drivers...
Are these stock runs Red Line? -
Demo is DX10 I think that's y I'm getting 2x FPS, lol. Just a guess.
-
Yep, marked stock and OC'ed) are the setting i used good for the benchmark?
enabling "DOF" is a bit of an overkill, never used it before... -
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Ahhhh....gotcha. Mind 2x FPS is nice
You done a stock vantage Aiki? - if so, what d'ya get? -
Give it a shot @ max everything including DOF. I'll do the same tonight
-
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Just wondering here but arent these Metro results gonna be slightly conflicting as Aiki has a 2960xm vs Red Line's 2630qm....Metro is a very cpu dependant game so results may be a bit hard to compare.
From recollection, I was getting almost 30fps with the same settings when I had my 6970's / 2920xm. (posted somewhere in this thread!) -
ok....now something is going on..
http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...benchmark-thread-part-4-a-41.html#post7925118
widezu69 damn near beat dgdxgdg(vantage gpu score) with a far far lower cpu. just think if that was a 2920xm/2960xm.....
and check out his over clock. any of you run single card test yet?
you guys need to seriously get to work in finding out what the problem is.
-
Wow, so I guess his card is throttling free? And how the heck did he achieve those clock speeds with A1!?
-
not sure exactly

Xeneize, seems like we have almost identical results here! CPU power is kinda useless in this particular game)
BTW, updated benches in my sig... -
Does anyone know what "throttling removal using the blind flash method" for the M17x R3 580M means?
widezu69 is the one that made the comment.... sorry I never look at the M17x forums so completely disconnected.
Johnkss... I guess that would do it, if we can remove the throttle then we're all set, then again I suspect you already knew that and your point is that they found a way before us
-
here 10char
-
the process seems to be different for the m18x
-
I think this may hold true for most games... it's synthetic benches that CPU has an advantage, pretty useless in real world gaming.
-
I am new to the Alienware scene, and Benchmarking in general. I scanned the forums for similar system setups to see their benches but thought I would just ask here if you guys think these scores are normal/average.
I used the free version of 3DMark-Vantage, and am just going to copy paste the results from their website. Thanks for any input, and I hope you are all having a great week.

Most of this is Greek to me, I understand what it is supposed to represent, just not if the representation is good, bad, or average. Thanks again for any input, everyone, and have a great week! -

They seem about right to me. Ive just got my new system and have run stock vantage too. With this run below, everything remains at factory settings with factory drivers. Only difference is my 16gb ram. Stock score a bit over 23k but then my slightly higher score can be attributed to cpu mainly and a tiny bit 'cos of memory, maybe. Dont worry about your gpu's showing on Futuremark as 6970 - they havent been able to read/display the 6990 correctly for some time now....in fact, since they were launched, I havent seen one bench from FM with 6990m displayed correctly in the results.
Stock Vantage / Dell Drivers / no tweaks - result. -
Have you guys seen this? Check out that core freq

insane .... physical mod though, out of reach of 99.9% of people
-
Yea, I was reading it over at T|I. I'd love to do it to my dual 6990's but my PSU/mobo would throttle like crazy.
-
-
Thanks for for the awesome, and quick reply, I really appreciate it!
-
great score!
but im thinking...this time next week..shaden will be crown holder of this benchmark....
at about 9k over all...
dr650se:
was checking out the mod myself...only problem is...if you mess up one time...your done and have to buy new cards. also..was wondering if pencil modding could work instead of soldering... -
Can't seem to find the original source/diagram but if its just connecting two pads or shorting a couple of resistors together, a solder pen should work if the pencil doesn't (pencils seem to be hit or miss lately as they put a bunch of extra crap in the graphite).
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Afraid of some soldering John?
-
hummmm, i have plenty cards modded..how many you got..
now if that worked..that would be great news..since software can just about accurately monitor the voltage. no need to solder read points either. -
Hmm, never heard of a pencil or pen. Time for moar research!
-
Is it possible to undo any work with it? Wash it off? I may use it instead of pin modding my M11x R1 if it is possible.
Also, on the CPU, where the pen has been used at the edge? what was the point of that particular mod? -
On most of them they can be cleaned with rubbing alcohol (just don't apply a trace sealer as recommended).
-
You can use Pin grabbers which are effective in clinging onto chip legs if the spacing between each leg is sufficient enough.
-
bclk adjustment.
http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/340961-trying-overclock-core-2-duo-e4300.html#post3980490
i concur.
you know we are talking about a laptop right?
-
Chips for VRM's come in all shapes and sizes. I haven't looked at the chip in question here, if the spacing is sufficient you can use this.
Those grabbing points are very small once they are retracted into a tight vice.
-
And Oh boy am I looking forward to it ... if these pens and such work though, the next step might be modding ... I am actually considering it now
-
yessir.... kind of hard explaining extra solder on your cards for rma. and most people will try to rma it. also has a 50/50 chance....they take it or they void ones warranty and send it back as is or ask you to pay for new cards...all depends on what tech is working that day.
hummmm..like to see how your going to put that on a m18xr1 gpu pcb with the laptop closed up. but hey...you are the man if you can!
good for testing...but if it slips off and hits a component..there goes your 3k laptop. me...i did that with a 600 dollar desktop card...
