For correct fan speed readings try hwinfo32

Same story with the latest stable version of hwinfo32, - it shows fan speed 30% always Plus, it doesn't show the stats for the secondary GPU. We need Martin :)

Update: I can confirm that the system occasionally locks up when hwinfo32 is running in the background. Had to remove it from my machine :(

Thanks for confirming this guys. I too have been locking up and obviously, Hwinfo32 is the cause. Have swapped to HWmonitor in conjuction with gpu-z

For those of you getting lockups with HWInfo32's latest build + M18x, here is why and what to do:

Please pass this info along to anyone else that uses HWInfo32 and has lockup issues with their M18x.

Thanks Joker...will try it out. Does Martin have a fix for this in the mix that you are aware of? Im trying option number one - disabling LPC/EC via config menu....see how it goes.

I've got a problem on every games with crossfire on (including 3d mark 2011). The screen constantly shows pink flickering.

Tried the combination of 11.5 + Cap 3 and also have tried the Dell Stock Driver. Does this mean that my 2nd graphic card is faulty ?

Oh and I also found BIOS version difference between the 1st and 2nd card, I successfully flashed it with the same flash (using GPU-Z) but the problem still won't go away.

Ive just had a very weird experience with my system! - first time its happened to me on any laptop.

Basically, opened the lid to get ready to turn on....(i always unplug from the wall socket but leave the plug in the rear of the system).

So, I plug into the wall and flick the wall switch on to power up the surge protection device/strip , flick the on/off switch on the surge strip for the socket that the psu is plugged into.......bingo....before I can even get back to press the Alienhead to boot her up, she has done it herself!

Hahaha - I didnt touch a thing and its just started itself!!!

That has (sort of) happened to me only once. I plugged the (powered) power cable into the back of my M18x and it immediately came on, without touching the button.

It's only happened once, and I'm not sure what, if anything, was different that one time.

To use the second monitor you need to drag a window over there. As for the sound you need to play with the options. Double click the speaker icon, see what comes up and the like.

Hey guys, I didnt want to start a new thread because of my tiny stupid questions.
Can I apply alienfx to games manually?
I know some games support it but lots of games I play dont support alienfx.
Also, I like to have more colors on my keyboard.
They only have enabled 3 or 4 parts of keyboard avalible for colors.
Id like to have like 10~12 colors on my keyboard. Do guys know any solutions for questions?

AFAIK, most games don't support AlienFX. There was a developer who did some work on it, but it didn't go far if I recall correctly.

You can't customize colors beyond what's in the Command Center, but you can do some morphing/pulsing themes.

I am having a problem with my wireless adaptor. I ordered it with the Intel Advanced-N 6200 adaptor. When I did the fresh install of Windows, I followed Batboy's procedure and I used the driver for the 6200.

When I log on, the adaptor does not connect to my router. I have to click the icon on the taskbar and run the troubleshooter. The troublshooter will "reset" the adaptor and then it will connect to the router.

It is aggravating to have to do this at every log on. Any ideas of how to fix it?

I have had this issue with different machines. What I learn to do is to uninstall the device from control panel -> device manager... then reboot. After the reboot it seems to reinstall it OK. As I say, it solve the issue 4me. Lets us know if its work for you. ;)

Be careful: reinstaling drivers, without a deep cleaning of residuals in between, can bring more issues than solutions... It's seems that windows get 'confused'... ;)

I use a Cooler Master NotePal U3 Notebook Cooler. It has three fans that can be arranged to match your notebook intakes. My M18x fits on it fine. It has a speed control and a pass through USB connection.

I'm having something similar going on . . . I ordered the 6300 and that's what appears to be installed. Yet on my resource disk is the 6200 and that's what it's saying is installed.

So I downloaded the 6300 driver from Dell and installed it. But I'm not seeing any available networks when I have the Intel Proset Wireless enabled. I have to have the standard windows networking enabled to be able to connect to my network and the net.

Any ideas? How can I confirm that I do have the 6300 installed?

And now that I am looking at my device manager my Atheros AR8151 PCI-E-Gigabit Ethernet Controller and a PCI Simple Communications Controller have a ! by them

I did a clean install following the Dell Driver install order and really haven't had any issues this past week after I replaced my memory and drives.

How can I identify what the PCI Simple Communications Controller is?

    Thanks for the help!

I too, have had issues with the wireless adapter and the LAN . I have the 6300, I did a clean install and every since I have had nothing but issues. When I try and unplug from my router directly to my modem the LAN does not pick it up, I get an exclamation mark and have to reset everything. Also, if I do a speed test, ie speakeasy, it stalls about halfway through the upload test then for a second or two, then when it goes to try the upload test it takes forever to even start, once it starts it uplaods at about .75 mbps, I have high speed internet, should be at least 5-6 mbps. This is all when it is plugged in.... Now when I am on wireless, it does the same thing, just not nearly as bad, it stalls a tiny bit during the download test, and when the upload test starts it is a little slow, but I get regular upload speeds. I thought it was Comcast maybe, however, my wifes computer works fine. I have not made a big deal about it, cause it works 90% of the time.

Hey man, this is my first time using a laptop with the rubberized whatever the heck it is. :) I had some of those "electronic" cleaning wipes out of a can for wiping down my monitor... noticed some smudges and bit of grease on my palmrests, tried it out and it removed it. So far it hasnt caused the rubber to wear off, in fact it makes it look brand new again. So I am using that!

do u guys think i can change cpu later on?
m18x is great but cpu isnt good enough for gta 4 or civilization 5.
I saw ppl saying cpu is attached to the motherboard.
I just wanna confirm if its true because i really like to switch my processor when better one comes out

Depends on what CPU you're talking about, buy anyway even the 2620 will crush those games and anyway GTA 4 is sadly just a crappy port.
The CPU is not soldered on the motherboard if this is your concern so you can upgrade later with no problem ;)

    Cheers

    it's 2720qm - Did not overclock it.
    and 16gb 1600mhz ram
    6970m cf.

w everything maxed out, frame isnt that great. I guess less than 20fps.

GTA4 is intensive cpu dependant game.

I went to can you run it website and m18x could not pass recommand bar.

Bought gta4 from steam and it did not recognize cf. so i made commandline.txt and did something to force it.

Do you have all the patches/updates installed.
Again, GTA4 it's a bad port, try lowering shadows and other options.

I just ran mine (see specs below) and it passed with flying colors. Both the graphics and processor came in at more than twice the "optimized" performance, (although the "Overall" performance bar was just a bit higher than "Optimized"). Keep in mind, I have the slower 460m cards (and I seriously doubt that it could even access SLI), and although my processor is the fastest available for the M18x, there was a huge margin, and yours isn't THAT much slower!

If your system is failing that test, there has to be something wrong, as even the low-end M18x should pass with no problem.

Update: Just checked for Civ5, and my M18x blew away the test even more than with GTA4. This time, even the "Overall" performance was more than double the "Optimized" bar.

is it a game problem or more-like a driver problem?

because 2.4 ghz is recommended for gta 4
but 2720qm factory setting is 2.2 ghz.
    I'll overclock it and see

Well, my return was just delivered by UPS. Now I have to wait till they give me a refund so I can order another one. I havn't decided on the exact specs, nor have I decided on if I actually want a laptop any longer. I may just get a desktop instead, but I have at least a week before it gets checked in regardless.

I have installed a OCZ Vertex III and a OCZ Agility II in my M18x and it seems like the temperature of the SSDs are high. Does anyone know of a program that will accurately show the temperature for a SSD? On the OCZ website, the operating temperature for the Vertex III is shown as 75C.
