Looks like the 1866MHz RAM can be paired with the 2630QM :)

Think we can only pull that off because of the BIOS support.

Dunno but I've seen a couple of positive comments from XPS, Inspiron and MBP owners even with dual core systems. Here's a CPU-Z screenie:

We certainly do but we can't beat the price on newegg. Our price is $135 + shipping (2x4gb).

Right, i've had a phone call from a supervisor of Dell's Tech Support, and now i am even more pissed off that i sold by old Asus laptop to buy this! It seems that they will not replace the graphics cards, the only way they would do that is if i buy the Nvidia cards from them (the reason they say is that i want to replace them just because of games, and that's not it), or i should just send the laptop to the depot (so pay someone to pick it up) and let them run some tests, but we all know that they would just send the laptop back and take away £20 for a pickup.

So now i am even more displeased with this...does anyone want to buy my alienware? I just give up.

My issue is that i am disappointed with the performance of these ATI 6970M's and i wanted to replace them with the Nvidia's, that's all.

the 460s or upcoming 580s? Even the 485s won't give you a massive increase, there will even be a decrease in some areas. Maybe notebooks are not for you : s.

Have you tried returning it and reorder with the SLi 460m? Time is ticking and those 21 days will pass before you know it.

I was trying to get them changed to the Nvidia 460's because i am displeased with the ATI 6970M, and i have had several notebooks before, and they never displeased me as much as this Alienware has...

It sounds like yours is an isolated case NecroSavant.......the laptop has been very well received by everyone else who has one now

If you can share more details about what you are doing and why you are displeased we can probably help you get things working as expected - I can say with confidence this should blow away anything asus has to offer

Well, it's weird that you say that, when i am playing games, even with crossfirex, i would prefer the graphics and framerate that my old Asus, with 1 460M graphics card provided.

I am just sick and tired of all the errors in games, screen tears and other errors that this system is doing!

Oh, and about the laptop being well received by everyone else...then why at least 15 or more people had bad ratings on this laptop in this forum and the laptop has only a 4 on the dell website?

15 bad ratings out of thousands of units.....hardly indicative.......and the reasons for their bad ratings were things like - new gpus SHOULD be out soon and I would prefer those...

If you are having performance issues it is most likely that something is configured wrong

Have they offered to replace the current GPUs with a replacement set? New 6970s, that is not changing the part. That would be a normal warranty issue then. They pretty much NEVER change the spec of the laptop with replacement parts no matter how much you ask.

Sounds like it could be defective cards.

Yup, they changed it once (1 of them) and it still underperforms, and now they are not offering to replace them again.

    Try this:

Call back. Be friendly and direct but mostly importantly stay calm. Every time you hit a road block after they've run all their remote tests (gotta go through this step!) ask to speak with their supervisor. Go up the chain until there are no more supervisors to speak to. See how that goes.

Also, emailing that address is another good way to go. I highly recommend doing both. I had to go through weeks worth of back and forth on the phone and emails to get a refund for a machine I had for 9 months. Eventually I got it done and the money was returned so I could buy the M18x.

The key is to be persistent and if one rep isn't being helpful or straight out calls you a liar to immediately speak with their supervisor.

I think the email addy your after is actually [email protected] - gets you through to Dell Exectutive Customer Resolution Team which is the "last stop cafe" in terms of getting a complaint or issue resolved. Heck, I should know - Ive emailed him enough :D

Its a pity it doesnt actually get through to Mike himeslf but im sure he is far too busy playing golf or buying a private jet or something else that multi billionaires do in their spare time!

Eliphion for you there will be a nice advantage because using 6gb is also slightly limiting because only when equal amounts of ram are used in each DIMM it works in true dual channel (ie 4gb in 2 DIMMS or 2gb in 4 DIMMS, etc). In your case of 6gb you use 4gb stick in one slot and 2gb stick in the other slot. I believe on the 4gb stick only 2gb of that runs in true dual channel while the other 2gb on the 4gb stick does not.
