Those are some great old laptops you guys are talking about. Back in those days, good build quality was the norm. Now it costs extra.

Edit: But, then again, all laptops were expensive back then and the difference is that there is actually such a thing as a "cheap laptop" in today's world. To that extent, I guess we're living in the good ol' days right now.

Have got my sweeeety M18X two weeks ago;the child got a name LoveStory, the same than his father's name :)...

    Intel Core i7 2720qm | 8GB DDR3|GTX 460 SLI | RED Alu.

Well,I have got a little present on my first start - boot just stopped on the middle and system crushed XD...BUUUUT,well I'll curse Windows ans MR.Billy.Aside,I'm running all newest games on ultra settings and no problems.Aliens, respect, come on our planet sonner :D...

Since I have a question to Alien Support....I've got a very limited budget of some 2600$ on this moment. But in one month I will get a 2000$ extra. So the question is - can I send the loptop back AND make modifications on?For example get a I7 2920XM Overlocked chip and Dual 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 580M on my loved loptop?well, also to put some 16GB 1600MHz Memory....can I?

The Tecra 730 CDT was a "revolution": it have 48 Mb... can you imagine working with that? (and my 1983 Sinclair spectrum have 3.5Mhz and full 128Kb memory... I was so proud!) :D

I heard from already 3 people in USA and 1 friend at my motherland in Europe, that Aliens tried to do so perfect job on hardware so they have got a biggest problem on software XD...But well, fortunately,It was quite okay for me.

My best friend in France has got an Asus G73 and for 3 months he was a real pain in the ....but now with his ugly piece a of ch...of Asus he sucks XD.
Cause Alien beat him on performance for more than 1 point and it's a really beautiful friend, not like a rabbit box of Asus

But I still waiting for your opinions - can I send it back to replace some parts for better ones?...I NEVER seen the inside Alien construction so I have no idea if the graphic card can be replaced. It should be no problem for a processor, well,if it is possible to get to of cause XD.But graphic card...you have to completely change it with you mother card on laptops,no?

I'm just gonna leave this here:
    Intel i7 mobile CPU i7 2920xm ES 2.4Ghz | eBay
I think it's a good price especially if it'll perform the same as the 920xm ES did compared to his OEM counterpart.

But dual-piped heatsink still needed

I ordered one of these ES for tests and will check the performance and temps with a single and dual-piped HS next week.

    Wow. 5:21 is excellent.

Yeah, the reactions this type of machine generates in public place are definitely priceless. My favorite interactions are the teenagers that are familiar with Alienware and are so consumed by jealousy that an "old guy" has one.

But, it's the crApple fans that try to pretend they don't care that are fun to mess with. There are always so many nonchalant peeks from the corners of their eyes, but they quickly shift their gaze away whenever they realize you are looking in their direction.

I recently had a crApple CrapBook owner sitting next to me in First Class on a plane trip make the comment that my R2 was "Like bringing a RPG launcher to a sword fight." I immediately agreed with his statement and affirmed that complete and total annihilation of your opponents is, in fact, a warrior's ultimate goal in any fight. I also congratulated him on his astute observation and thanked him for paying me such a high compliment. I mentioned that my passion for high performance computers was rivaled only by my enthusiasm for firearms and assault weapons and told him how much I liked his RPG analogy. I asked if he was a gun enthusiast also. His response was one word - "no"... He put his CrapBook back in its sleeve and never said another word for the rest of the trip. It was all I could do to not laugh for the next 90 minutes that we were sitting next to each other.

And all this power in small bag which you can take with you everywhere.

Well,I will wait 1 year until my insurance take over and then I will be allowed to study the Aliens bodies with a clear soul.

No, you don't have to be more specific, sir, i think you should take a look under User CP(near the top left of a NBR page) > Edit Options , now scroll down till you find Number of Posts to Show Per Page and in the drop down list choose the maximum you can and watch the 'magic happen', i have it set to 50 and that's why i said it shows 2 pages for you since the number of posts per page is set to a lower value.

I also did get your point the first time but i didn't wanted to continue discussing on the same subject ;)

katalin_2003,you who know about Aliens more than me - whats a situation with graphic card on Alien laptops?Generally it's deadly attached to your mother card on laptops. Is it replaceable on Aliens or you have to change all his skeleton?

I love the way this is worded.....honestly! +rep for the "Alien" analagies to the MB etc....

No, the graphics cards arent "deadly attactched" to the motherboard or "skeleton" (unless some inept Dell tech soldered them in on the assembly line  ).....all joking apart, gpu upgrades are possible. The gpu's are removable...even if its only to clean out the heatsinks etc they can be removed.....i think thats what you were asking, right?

Hein?Love? Why?I'm trying to be polite speaking foreign language

Yes,it is a question - can I take off and put another graphic card without difficulties on M18X?
So...I have just to buy a GTX 580m and put it in?(Well,of cause I should get a schema of M18x..cause you know, often we find ourselves with "additional useless parts" XD)

    I wasnt being rude...just complimetary.

As for upgrading your gpu. Yes. If at some point in time you wanted to upgrade to GTX 580m, you will be fine as that is an option that Dell are offering on the M18x......

    Another IMPORTANT question - 580SLI in USA = 1200$,580SLI in UK = 1050*1.6 = 1600$... = SLI USA + I7 2820 ...hm...reasonable?
So I'm better to get all in USA,until I leave and take an advantage of low pricing and taxes?

And finely - do Aliens have a mother-ship in France?

Yes, it seems that for Dell things go like this $=£=€ more or less.
So if you can buy it there do it, warranty can be transfered internationally.

You mean tech support? If so, then yes.

Support, yes, but also a plant where they can modify a laptop on command.I suppose AW do not ship their computers from America? (well,I hope so)

steviejones133 - try to get a catch with a someone leaving for USA or living there. Then just pay him the necessary, cause Europe is really in late in this kind of tech. For my 3 weeks being here I noticed than all high tech is 45-70% cheaper than in Europe.I hope to leave with a new IPad2 to finish my happiness....And I hope that customs will not stop me and will not brutally finish my happiness

Never mind. The important thing here is that all love new technologies, advanced designs, "different" (like the Alienware ones), and are all willing to pay adequately for them to enjoy their potential. Do not know where this specimen came out with his rude criticism of those who buy a laptop, especially an AW one. In contrast to that guy, in this forum I have found really brilliant people that I can learn from them every day (from their questions and from their answers).

Regarding some post in that finally well closed thread, I personally dislike the comparative term "RPG" to qualify AW machines... (sorry, do not like weapons: I know too much what they can do...). Maybe my preferred comparative term would be a "good tool to address routine with entertainment..." ;)

"Mothership" is China.....they all get deployed from there.....as for returning to Mothership for "fixing", you may have to send your Alien back to a "Mini-Mothership".....also known as "The Depot"......which is likely to be fairly closer to you than China.... ;)

Seriously? It would be very cool to have a fox for a pet, especially considering my name. And, I'm not one that is normally even fond of pets. It's somewhat unusual to see wild canines like foxes, wolves and coyotes remain docile enough to be good as pets. That is interesting, even though off topic. Thanks for sharing.

Well, when I was a child, since my parents love animals and teach us too, and we have a big home, it was full of many 'strange' animals... (not politicians).

Today, besides my dog, my pets are just aliens (computers).

Had to fix the date in my signature. Had today's date by mistake. I'm backing up my data as we speak, preparing to do a clean install on the R2 so I'm ready to go tomorrow. This works out excellent because I am off this week and traveling for business from Saturday through Saturday. Talk about good timing!

Congrats to all new M18x owners! I'm sending mine back for now but will be repurchasing when M18x-R2 is released.
