Good points on the ergonomics, scook. Hauling the beast in a briefcase or messenger back with extended business travel would be a painful and potentially harmful experience. With a backpack it could not be any easier on my tired old chassis, LOL. :)

Anything heaver than like 7 or 8 pounds should be carried in a backpack. You need the weight spread evenly on your core or risk long term damage due to the imbalance.

Obviously this is well past the safe threshold haha

That backpack will literally last with years of heavy use. They use incredibly strong stitching and nylon material.

Nvidia may and will claim many things but we won't know for sure till the mobile parts are benched vs the AMD counterparts.

Somehow I don't think there will be more than 10% edge and even then only under heavy OC'.

I had the Orion m17x bag and it only lasted me 1year. the right strap has nearly completely come off.. and in the middle you can see the back coming apart. I used this everyday to and from work but only short trips to the car. I rang dell and they replaced the bag free of charge :) and did not want broken one back.. however i ended up buying the EVERKI Titan 18.4" bag and its way better with far better protection for laptop (fur inside) and more compartments.. just my two bobs

that is what i read in some reviews. i wasn't sure if it was an isolated incident or what. mr. fox and scook say they've had theirs for a while and that there were no problems with the stitching. i was also looking at the EVERKI Titan you mentioned but it seems pretty hard to find.

In full disclosure, I have the original M17x Orion bag (not the scanfast one) and the M18x Orion bag. I use it when traveling or when I need to transfer the M18x (nothing else fits it).

My main judgement of Mobile Edge though comes from my Mobile Edge Premium Backpack which I have been using for 4 years now and still going fantastically strong. It has lasted through my last 3 laptops and is only not used for the M18x since it is just too dang big haha

I have the everki can vouch for it the only thing that sucks is it's size the thing dwarfs me (me 5'8). I guess it's to be expected with a m18x fitting with plenty of room to space.

Locutus - right click the BIOS installation file and run as admin. Or, better yet, simply disable UAC and then run everything with elevated privileges.

    Yes I did. Thank you!

By the way the color red was more silvery and glossy than I thought. It looks more "luxurious." Glad I was at least able to unbox it with ya.

LOLOLLLLLLLLLL Locutus and I were just talking about that when we were unboxing, how people want to buy the sleeve!!

They dont have specific part number as far as I know. It is really hard to come by on ebay. You should check on the marketplace. Some people who have cases on their own sell theirs.

BTW, for nebula red systems the cloth is actually color red. Combination of red and burgundy to be exact. Looks very nice.

There is no secondary GPU, therefore there is no fan and no heatsink. If you get a secondary GPU, you need a fan and heatsink.

I recently purchased a M18x and it's in production. I chose the regular HDD instead of SSD, but now I've decided to get a SSD for my M18x. Should I call Alienware and ask them to replace the HDD with the SSD Alienware offers or should I buy a SSD and install it myself? Thanks!

Congratulations on the M18x purchase, bro. :) I hope you love yours as much as I do mine. It's the best gaming laptop available, and nothing else compares in terms of price, build quality and performance.

You cannot change an order in production. That's not permitted. Your only option is to cancel it and re-order or buy your own SSD through another channel.

The Samsung 830 SATA-III 6GB/s SSD that is shipping with the M18x is a very good SSD. Compare the price difference to see if you can save money buying your own SSD, but bear in mind your Alienware warranty will not extend to any issues you may experience with an SSD (or any other part) that did not ship with your M18x. Understandably so, they will not assist you resolving issues that may arise when using your own parts.

Here is an example of an issue they cannot help you resolve if you buy your own SSD: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...s-dropping-sata-ii-speeds-19.html#post8285060

Yes, I sure did. It's an excellent SSD if you decide to go the route of buying your own. Attached is a thumbnail showing a comparison of the M4 performance to the mechanical HDD I am using for data storage.

I think I'm going to do that. I'm on a computer that can barely keep one tab open, so it's very hard to browse the forums, but is there a place I can go to see a step by step guide on how to add a SSD drive while keeping my default HDD, or just a guide on how to add a SSD to your M18x?
