    Hi,

I have wondered if it is possible to run the M18x on a 150W power supply when using the Integrated GPU.

Can anyone please confirm if they have tried this? Will the machine work correctly?

I have a couple of spare 150W power supply, I would like to leave them connected in places where I tend to sit (living room, bedroom), it would be nice to connect to those while browsing the internet.

However I would then be able to leave the 330W power supply in a more permanent location (office desk).

    Thanks

No, you cannot. You will get an error message about the AC adapter not being compatible and the system will not charge if you have the wrong AC adapter plugged in. (Same thing if the correct AC adapter goes bad.) There is a chip in the AC adapter that communicates with a chip on the motherboard through a wire in the AC adapter.

So I bought an M18x, it took a month to get here, and when it finally did I was stoked, only to find out the graphic cards and memory they put in were wrong. I called and they sent a technician out to my house the next day to replace the GPU, the guy they sent was very polite and professional, he didn't mind that I hovered over him and asked him questions (I had never taken apart a laptop before) he actually taught me quite a bit.

The next day I emailed my customer service rep to see about the ram, no reply was sent, it's been a week now, and still no answer. Not to mention I've already gotten 3 blue screens and a few beep codes on start up. Taking all this into account I'm going to return the computer.

I already know I have 21 days from the day of delivery to return it for any reason, that leaves me about 11 days to get it sent out. My question is, will Dell have any problems with me returning this laptop, turning around and buying a new one? Also, is there any way I can hold this laptop till the new one gets here? I'm trying to hold out till the m18x with CF 7970s is released, which I'm hoping is in the new week or so.

There should be no problem with that, and you might get newer hardware specs. It might be a good idea to do that given that the M18x R2 is about to hit the streets.

If you decide to keep it, send a PM to AW-FedericoH for help with the RAM problem that they are ignoring.

    Hi!

I decided to sell my m18x and wait for ivy bridge and 7970m to come and then buy!

But I have a question about the service tag. I guy want me to give him my service tag so he can see what there is in my m18x exactly, but can he have access to my personal informations with the service tag?

Is it risky to give this information?

It is. It can lead to a service tag fraud. He can call dell and order things in your name, or perhaps claim parts in your m18x are broken and get their replacements for free.

Do not ever share your service tag with anybody. Tell the buyer you will transfer the warranty to his name (and then he gets the tag) when the transaction between you two is done.

Agree with DarkSkies... Don't do it, bro. No way... big time risk. If the buyer is serious, he will get over it. You can send him screen shots or photos or something else. If he disappears you know he was a scammer.

True... I already got someone like this before. He was insisting on the service tag, finally I sent him pictures from dell site with the specification and removed the service tag...

I never got any response from the guy after that! So, please be aware of what you are doing. First the money, or if the buyer can meet with you, let him see it and finally you can both decide on what needs to be done.

    Hi guys,

I was looking around for used M18 because I need one now to play Diablo 3 with my brother, I cannot wait for the R2 as I promised I would be there to play on the 15th..

so I'm here to ask you guys if this is a good deal to buy? I asked him if he would lower the price at all with the new Ivy being released, and the M18 being a R2 now......

    here is the link

I guess I figured to try and get some good parts, yes I know overkill for Diablo, but I'm sure I will play some games here and there, and thought what is the point of pay 2,500 then 500 more for better parts ( CPU.. SSD..)

Also I am open to if anyone knows of a good deal, I am looking for high end CPU, and SSD, would like the 580's, but 6990 I will not complain.

thank you guys for any help, or thought, much appreciated..

Depends on how bad you want one, I think it is over priced since I paid 2400.00 for mine on the Outlet with a coupon. That was not long after they came out. I would try to shop around a little more for a better deal.

^ wow. thanks for the info

I am not sure I've seen one for that low, with your stuff. Most on ebay are around 3-4k with your options..

I looked on dell, but no 18's at all..

    thanks again

There are m18x's, they're just being hoarded by scripters. They keep the m18x's in their carts so nobody else can get them and then buy them when a coupon hits.

    ^ I see, thanks

well, looks like I'm out of luck on that.

any other suggestions guys? I really need to pick one up soon, like before May 5th.

do you guys think the announcement of Ivy and the "whole revision 2" is gonna discount prices at all?

I am having problems connecting an external optical mouse to my m18x. All USB ports are working fine and they all show the "Device installed Correctly" message when connecting an external mouse, but with all the mouses I've tried, none of them work on this laptop, but they work with other laptops.
    -----------------------
never mind, it was a problem due to motion joy drivers.....

I need serious help, my 11 day old m18x just crashed 4 times in 30 minutes. I tried calling alienware tech support and they connected me to a line that didnt pick up, does anyone know a reliable person I can email/talk to who works for dell that can get this sorted?

Greetings Peppergrass! I was in the same boat as you and getting really frustrated with the laptops in the outlet disappearing thanks to all the scripters. If you are looking to get an M18X R1 at a really good deal then call them up, I believe the number is (866) 492-6721, they had access to systems I had never seen and I sat for a few days straight with the M18x outlet page on auto refresh every five seconds. On top of that Dell has a deal going until 5/4/12 @ 11:59pm for 20% off any Alienware laptop or desktop from the outlet. (Coupon Code = JG3KLZBGNCM41X) I ordered mine today and saved over $500. Plus they always give free 3-5 day shipping so it will arrive in plenty of time for Diablo 3! Hope that helps you get your beast!

Yep, they remove them from the inventory when in a cart, but there's a 15min inactivity timeout.

All you have to do is get a script or manually refresh the screen regularly and the item isn't available to anyone else.

Great advice on calling in. They did have systems that were not showing up online. I got a dual 6990, killer config for under $1400 after coupon. I definitely never saw that one online before. If I like AAFES pricing when the 7970's come out, I still might opt for a brand new system, but for now, this one is great and cheap.
