No problem. What spec did you opt for at the end of the day? - congrats on your purchase, I am sure you will be happy with it...we hear more bad experiences than good here BUT for every bad experience, there are countless people that are extremely happy - those people tend not to post about how happy they are vs. those that aren't happy, which is a shame really.....we could do with more people reporting good things and not just bad.

Please advice what I should do:
I still have the very annoying issue that I have to boot twice to have my sound system working. In addition, if I close the laptop and it goes to sleep mode, after opening and wakening it up, the sound system crashes and I can't even shut it down without pressing the alienhead button for a complete forced shutdown.
This is very very annonying especially for a system I paid more than 4000 Euro for.
Any advice - should I contact AW/Dell, can they even help because as I understand it, its a bios issue (I have A03 installed)
    Many thanks

Random question. I checked the Alienware site and tried to customize an R2 just to see the price and saw that the extra power adapter they offer for SLI or Crossfire systems is the 240W version. Do the newer dual-GPU systems use only the 240W one instead of the 330W version of the adapter?

SLI and Crossfire use the 330W adapter. You'll notice it changes in the list on the right hand side where it shows your system specs before adding to the cart. There are still a couple problems with the configurator on Alienware's site...the web devs are slacking a bit. For example: (1) The 3940XM @ 3.9 GHz should be $900, because the 3940XM @ 4.2 GHz is $1150.

the 3610 is there lowest cpu and the one i my self am currently using and even tho you cant over clock it its still a beast of a cpu and surprisingly im very happy with it..( I thought i was going to be like ogod another turd ) like with the R1s low end cpu but this is not the case.. the 3610 holds its own very decently and ive found no issues with gaming or any thing.. doesn't bottle neck my 680s ether.. so for the moment im happy with it and im sure you will be to..

what the heck are they charging such a big difference for? its the same chip right? or is it binned differently or is it just the factory oc option coming into play? the options you can set later and save money on?

It's the factory overclock that comes into play. For five minutes worth of work they have to charge extra for their time. Always trying to make that extra dollar.

Yeah I have the 3610QM in my DV7 and I was actually very surprised how well it performs, kicks it over the 940XM I was running in my previous DV7, good to know it wont be a bottleneck with 680s :)

uhh guys 680MX NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX - Notebookcheck.net Tech, but no 680mx sli? ewww

edit: nvm there is SLI but " The power consumption of the GeForce GTX 680MX should be somewhat higher than the GTX 680M, making it hard to cool in a small laptop case. Probably, only Apples iMac computer will use the GTX 680MX." alienware m18x r2 cant provide two in SLI cause uses too much power?

100w vs 122w according to n.b.c. - if they are to be correct. Maybe a larger psu would be required for sli in the 18x. Not entirely sure what headroom there is left in the psu when used on a 680m sli/Xtreme cpu equipped machine. Can't see heat being a problem with the current cooling system as it copes well with overclocked 680m's well enough. Sure, in a SMALL laptop case, it would be hard to cool but the 18x is a monster. The only PROBABLE reason that I imagine the article says "only iMac's" can handle it (chuckles to one's self at the thought that "only" an Apple product would be able to handle such a high end gpu) is through sheer ignorance on the behalf of NoteBookCheck.

I very much doubt that only the iMac would be getting this flagship card - unless in true crApple style, they have managed to wangle some kind of Proprietary deal with Nvidia for exclusivity.

It's also probably the only ram that you can get at the moment that would allow use of 32gb's at more than 1600mhz.....don't think any other manufacturer makes 8gb single modules over 1600 except for the ram you linked to.

Kingston make this but it looks like it isn't available yet, so there is no issues with 1866MHz RAM ? even though the 3610QM only supports 1333/1600 ?

EDIT: The kingston RAM seems to be only in 4GB modules :(

Corsair 1866mhz RAM has had TONS of issues in the M18x. I ordered it and sent it back as soon as it got here. Read around here about it, that's where I found the info. The Kingston HyperX works well though. Something about the Corsair timings I guess is what screws with the M18x.

Also, Even the XM processors only say it supports 1600mhz but but many here have simply plugged in the HyperX RAM and verified it was running at 1866mhz :)

Noy sure but the people I read about had r2. Might be both though. Its in the huge thread about ram on this forum. Besides. The hyperx is great ram and same mhz AND a few bycks cheaper :) no fuss. Just get the hyperx.

See if its shipped already and try to cancel if not. If it did and you used newegg your gonna be out $10 plus shipping back to newegg like I was even if you never open lol. Try to use it anyways and let us know if it works but im doubting it.

Too late there also.. it's already been shipped :(

On a good note, my m18x turned up today :) didn't realize how sweet they were, even my wife commented on how nice it looked  pretty good for a refurbished laptop, only a couple of little marks on it, not bothered really.

Not sure what to do with it OS wise, leave it as it is, install Windows 7 Ultimate or install Windows 8 Pro ????

Since its already shipped give it try I guess but Im seriously doubting its going to work for ya :( Either way if its opened or not they will charge the same fees I assume. The hyperX 1866mhz works for sure though so get that if/when the Corsair bums out on you.

Also, If your not strapped for cash get the Samsung 256gb SSD from them also. Its on sale for $169 and its MILLIONS of times better than a HDD. On the computer Im using now (M18x will be here Monday) my windows exp score went from 5.9 with a 7,200RPM drive to a 7.1 with the SSD! Thats on a SATA II drive at that, the M18x is SATA III so it will be even faster. Boot times are a snap with this thing. Honestly if I had to choose RAM or SSD Id go SSD....

Personally I HATE the look and feel of windows 7. I too will be sticking with 7 untill something the next widnows comes out and hopefully they get rid of that Metro crap! I have absolutely no issues with 7 so in this case it aint broke so I aint gonna try to fix it!

Ill play around with 8 on my girls computer if I feel the need to learn it.

Glad your happy with the M18x, I dont see how anyone would be disappointed in it :)

Hi everyone! Maybe i am not posting this in the right section but i feel this is the one!

I wanna buy a Alienware M18X R2 but.. anyone know any store in europe or a list of resellers?

(Sorry if this is posted in wrong section.. didn't want to open a topic just for this..)

    Edit:

Ordering from XoticPC with this config:

    CPU: 3940XM
    RAM: 32GB DDR3 1600
Graphic Card: Dual nVidia GTX680m - SLI
OS Disk: Samsung Serie 830 512GB SATA3 SSD
Data Disk: Samsung Serie 830 512GB SATA3 SSD
    Optic Reader/Write: Blu-ray writer 6x
    OS: Windows Ultimate x64
    Network Card: Bigfoot Networks Killer™ Wireless-N 1103

I will spare 1400€ then if i bought it in here.. f*ck europe and taxes!

    Edit2: Should i go for 840 pro SSD's instead?

If you like, have a look at my thread about saving money on Dell products: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...-system-accessories-please-contribute-15.html My Dell rep has managed to save lots of people a good amount of money off their order. I know the title says "buying in the UK" and you are in Portugal BUT he has helped quite a few guys from Italy and other places to buy their system from a UK rep at a great price.

Basically, you need a UK based freight forwarding company to handle your package. They then ship it on to you. If you have a look at the last few pages of my thread, you will see a few guys talking about which freight forwarding service they have used.

Anyhow, if you want my chap to give you a quote, post over on the thread or send me a PM and I will see if he can do you a good deal.

You need to be in iGFX mode to install the Intel HD3000/4000 driver. Switch from your discrete gpu's by pressing FN&F7, reboot and install the iGFX driver, FN&F7 again to switch back to your gpu's and reboot. Job Done.
