This. Also, will a filter list help prevent this? I remember a post/thread here before which made me add NoCoin to my filters.

Isnt't the 3940 xm and the 3920 xm the exact same CPU in regard to overclocking ? Or has someone got better results with the 3940xm?
4.5-4.7GHz from ssj92
The 4.5-4.7GHz from ssj92 seem hard to beat. -

They're basically the same in regards to overclocking. It just comes down to the silicon lottery as to how far you can push it over 4ghz. -
It doesn't matter which one you buy, what matters more is the silicon lottery.
I can easily hit 4.3Ghz on mine with no extra voltage.
4.4Ghz requires a bit, 4.5Ghz even more, 4.6Ghz even more and 4.7Ghz requires a lot.
4.8Ghz I have yet to perfect. I can boot and do basic stuff but it'll freeze after awhile and I already apply too much voltage.
I think it's safe to say 4.2-4.3Ghz is obtainable no matter what. 4.5+ will depend how much voltage and heat you can deal with. -
I have similar results, I run 4.3 full time no extra voltage. I’m not keen on overvolting for daily use, only for benchmarks here and there. I hit 4.9Ghz with my 2920XM long enough to validate CPUZ
-
I should also mention I run 4.3Ghz 24/7 not 4.7Ghz. No point in producing the extra heat and power unless I am benching. CPU doesn't bottleneck in games at 1080p with 780M SLI.
