I have an M18XR2 with dual 680Ms. There are too many threads on here to catch up on all the knowledge and many are spanning 3 years, so I'm hoping someone could give me an up to date tip.

It sounds like there are/were issues with the card throttling, even with replacement firmware. Has this been solved so that you can successfully overclock the card fairly safely and get some more performance out of them? If so, does anyone have a guide or link they could share to:

    - The firmware I should push to the cards
    - The utility to use to flash the firmware
    - Settings to use in Nvidia Inspector or another application to adjust clock speeds w/ recommended "safe" values to start with?

    Thank you!!!

    Hi!

    What you need:
Unlocked BIOS (I'm doing all my ocing with A09 if I'm not mistaken)
Depends of what level of oc you wanna achieve with those cards:
    Normal OC:
slv7 vbios mod = unlocked (normal w/o Overvolting)
    Heavy OC:
    slv7 vbios mod = unlocked + OV
All this vbios are located in other forum which I'm not quite sure if I can say they name of it here... just wait till other fellaw show up but it's quite big too and I don't think you are going to have any problem finding it.

And for the best OC possible you will need a Dual PSU which you can create following the guide that is easy to find through our best friend Google.

    Settings Nvinspector or tips:

Set up HWInfo64+RTSS+EVGA Prec X 4.2.1 for temps and clocks monitoring:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...peratures-game-benchmark-screen-display.html#

ThrottleStop v7 b3 + XTU with correct profile for Ocing the CPU.

Be sure to be using the correct thermal compound for overclocking to keep temps down. I do recommend you to read this link for this matter:

    Thanks Nikos!

I just ordered all the parts to build a dual PSU and the Liquid Ultra thermal paste.

As a part of research all of this, it turns out my M18Xr2 came with a single pipe cooler, but Dell no longer carries them. So, I'm trying to find out where to get one for a decent price.

I'll do some googling to find the hacked bios for the cards and mobo. Looking forward to all of this!

Nikos, I've flashed mobo and vbios. Do you have any links/bookmarks to good threads that suggest specific combinations of voltage, clock and memory for the 680m's, as well as bios settings for the 3840qm? Sure, I can do all kinds of things now, but I would go through some suggested templates to start than just muck around! Thanks =)

Go through each one by one as every chip is different.

The 3840qm you should just try to hit the max 4 core clock (+400mhz), don't bother setting the 1 and 2 core clocks higher.

Meaker, Do you have a specific breakdown of what I should set to hit 400mhz in the bios? There's a billion settings in there now that its unlocked. I just set Extreme to Bios, enabled overclocking and set it to Level 3 and went with the defaults. Its definitely faster based on 3dMark performance, but I bet there's more tweaking involved to really max this thing out =)

Find the minimum voltage that tests stable and then run with 1 or 2 steps above that. Set your current limit up to 100A at least (go for 120A) and up your TDP levels to 80W, this will allow it to run at full throttle for longer but also make it much hotter as a result.

Sorry I didn't see your post before :/
I don't have any guides or links for your CPU but I think you can achieve something interesting with that CPU not as high as XM but can you can play with it a little :D

A bit below 4ghz should be plenty for gaming :)
