Let me just ask one more question, would the power supply matters? the box came with a 220 W power supply and when I boot up the laptop it said it is design for a 330 W power supply.

There it is. Very odd. My M18x R1 shipped with a XM3C3 330. If you have an underpowered PSU you are going to see dramatic performance issues. I would get on the horn immediately with Dell and get that replaced. I may be missing something here, but a 220 does not sound correct at all for your setup. You should be seeing well over 100FPS in Diablo 3 with your setup in SLI once you get your problems corrected. I get about 151FPS with my dual 6990M in D3. So you should be seeing in that ballpark. Noted that I ALWAYS turn on vsync, though, and cap at 60FPS for a smoother experience.

P.S. - I have played around with the other players in gaming laptops like Origin, ASUS, etc. and I promise you that you are not going to find a finer gaming laptop than what Alienware is producing. Trust me, I've tried. Just let Dell get it right and be patient because the end result is completely worth it.

I have a question guys, i'm running 7970's in CF and i'm only getting 58-60 FPS in Diablo max! It should be way higher than that. Any ideal of what might be wrong or what I can do to fix it?

Didn't know if this would help.

    Hi fellow D3 players.
I need a new mouse as mine died the D3 " you Elite Mob" death.
I always was interested in the Alienware Tactx Mouse, but a friend of mine bought the Razer Naga (the one with the 6 buttons on the side).
My question - which one is better. Would appreciate your experience and feedback.

In the description AW mentions the many buttons the TactX Mouse has but on the pictures I only see two on the left side of the mouse.

I am not finding any poor performance issues. Diablo III plays great for me with GTX 580M SLI and with 7970M CrossFire. Here's a short video clip.

It is running fine with my 580M in SLI. This game is not too graphics demanding any way.

game is not very demanding. a single 6990m equivalent easily maxes it out at 60hz.

I have horrible stuttering issue in diablo 3. The game would work fine for 30 seconds and then slow to a crawl for 30 seconds. I have confirmed that my card is not throttling since it's happening on all temperatures and only on this game. Additionally, I have tried changing some of the nvidia control settings (ambient occulsion, adaptive vertsync..etc.) I have also tried many different drivers (304.79 beta is what im using, 304.48 beta, 301.42,296.10, 295.73) but nothing works. Additionally, when I play diablo my vlc player freezes during these "slow downs". Can anyone help? I have m18x R1 with nvidia 580m in sli, i7-2670QM, 8 gigs of ram. Thank you so much!!

Sorry for creating a new thread. I looked through the posts but it didn't have any solutions. Most of the solutions pertained to the AMD crossfire or just updating the driver. I was hoping for another solution. Im sure the graphics card can handle it just something is wrong. My macbook pro 13 without dedicated graphics card can run without the stuttering issues. HALP! ><

Hey - no need for apology, bro. We would still want to use the same thread for discussion rather than starting a new on for Diablo 3 performance problems. I hope someone can shed some light on the issue for you.

Question... why do you have VLC player running while playing games? If you have anything running in the background other than Diablo 3, I would try shutting down everything else before launching the game (if you haven't already tried that).

Check to be sure your system is using either Balanced or High Performance profiles and your AC adapter is plugged in. Gaming on Power Saver or on battery is a no-go. Also, are you running Diablo 3 full screen or in a Window? You need to go full screen for proper game performance if you are not already running full screen, especially on a system with CrossFire or SLI.

If all else fails, have you tried uninstalling Diablo 3, downloading a fresh copy of the installation package and reinstalling it? Since the problem is isolated to Diablo 3 it seems clear there is nothing wrong with your system. It may be a corrupt file or something out of whack with the registry keys relating to Diablo 3.

Thanks Ill keep that in mind next time.

I had VLC player playing on my external monitor since I like to have music/video playing in the background when I am playing games. I just noticed that the VLC video stops working when the lag spike is happening( the sound works) and resumes when the lag ends. Of course I tried turning everything off and playing the game but the lag spikes still happens.

I am using Higher performance profiles and my laptop is always plugged in. I tried both fullscreen mode (with insane flickering even with vertical sync) and windowed fullscreen mode( no screen tearing). But the lag spikes happens on both settings.

I tried uninstalling diablo 3 several times and even trying to install it on different hard drives ( i have a momentus XT and the stock hard drive) Still getting the same thing.

It seems from my research that a bunch of alienware users with nvidia have this problem especially at the launch of the game. However the posts seems to have decreased lately. (I just recently got the game.) I don't know if people are just finding a fix or they just gave up... Really frustrating that my m18x can't run diablo 3 =/

There must be something that is being overlooked somehow. I found Diablo 3 ran flawlessly with my GTX 580M SLI and 7970M CF setup in the M18x. Maybe someone that had the issue and found a fix can chime in. I never had to fix anything, so I am not able to share any more tips. Sorry I cannot offer any useful advice.
