This is truly sad. Take a look at this comparison LINK. As you can see, my 4910MQ CPU OC'ed to 4.3GHz on win 8.1 got a BETTER score than my 4930MX OC to 4.4GHz on Windows 10.

    What a load of B/S.

This shows 2 things very clearly: The new Nvidia driver is garbage; just like Windows 10.

Feels good to vent. Anyone else have any results they care to share?

The opposite happened for me, I got a 2.9% performance increase. Your loss is only 1.6%, I think you're making a big deal out of a small issue. You're not gonna notice even a small difference when playing games so chilliax. :)

I am unable to see your image, it doesn't load for me. Can you link it?

Side-note, it would be interesting to see other people's results. I noticed our GPU is different, perhaps the drivers work better on different GPUs.?. I'm not happy with these results at all.

Never managed to overclock my 880m's. VERY tempted to order the 980m SLI; but combing through the net, people are speculating there may be a new revision of the 980m's before the end of this year... Is there any truth to this? Does anyone know if it would be worth waiting for something 'better' than the 980m series; or should I just take the plunge?

I have to agree with @Saint Satan. Lowered performance is certainly an issue, however Windows 10 has not yet received the same polish as its predecessors. In six months if this is still the case I'll supply the torches, you bring the pitchforks. :)

I edited my post with the link and more info.

And what noteless said. W10 is still new and they will optimize it a lot more in the future. Nvidia drivers alone increased my performance by 500+ points since the time I got them. Relax and give it time.

Also no need to upgrade. Your 880's are more than enough for the next couple years.

If I got the kind of boost you received I'd be happy, LoL.

P.S. I need DX12. 880M SLI is not good enough.

Dude 880m SLI is plenty good enough for 1920x1080 lol. I have 780m SLI and I can max 99% of games. DX12 will give a big performance increase later in the year so there is no need to upgrade 880m's. They should last you several more years.

I have two AW18's with 880M SLI. One of them needs a DX12 upgrade and WILL get it; but the question is will it be the 980M SLI or is there something better on the way, if so what is it & when will it arrive? LoL

I want to upgrade by November.

well it probably won't be happening with the Alienware 18 tbh, you might be upgrading to a Clevo or an MSI Titan.

Interesting.. So is it a FACT that the best GPU the AW18 will be able to support is the 980M SLI???

Because if that is a fact, I need to find the best price to order it. But, if there is at least a 50% chance that it will be able to handle something better, I'd wait for that. :D

Thanks, this is VERY useful to me. We are running the same GPU, similar CPU, technically my CPU overclock is much higher and I SHOULD get a better score than you... However, I noticed that your GPU's core clock is 993MHz and mine is only 954MHz. Can someone PLEASE explain why this is since neither of our GPU's are overclocked on this run and we are using the exact same driver.?.

I'm using the BIOS that pretty much makes them work how they should have worked from product launch. They always run at 993Mhz.

What BIOS version is that? I am using the latest BIOS available... In games I get the full 993Mhz 90% of the time. But in benchmarking I never do; evidently stuck at 954MHz. :(

I also noticed that your motherboard is Alienware 04WJJ9, mine is Alienware 01W2J2 so naturally I assume the BIOS will be different for us.

That is very nice! What am I doing wrong? My CPU is dialed in, but I have no clue how to OC my GPU to improve my score.. Can you offer any help where to start?

eVGA precision for GPU OC is my personal choice. To get to 1058Mhz I had to bump up the core 65Mhz and add 25mv to my voltage.

Awesome. I will play around with it and see if I can get a better score. Thank-you.

Would love to see someone with 980M SLI post their scores, stock and overclocked. That would really make my day. :)

I tried but the score was worse. Liquid Ultra is on the GPU, runs very cool under full load; doesn't go over 64*C ever.. But it throttles really bad. Half way through the benchmark it just reverts back to 954MHz. Sucks. Must be because we have a different motherboard and BIOS. I don't see any way of being able to improve my score on my motherboard and BIOS version.

If anyone on here has any good advice, please share it.

Flash to the vBIOS I'm using. It's available at Tech|Inferno. I can't just upload it and give it to you, unfortunately. I'm adding liquid ultra this week to my CPU/GPU. I have stock paste on both currently. GPU 1 hit 93c @ 1.1Ghz core with 1.05v and throttles slightly. I will be updating my score later this week.

I should also mention I'm not using HWinfo to control the fans.

I take manual control on my fans when benching every time & run them at max.

Can you please send me a link to the vBIOS? Are you positive it will work with this motherboard & BIOS version??

It's not the motherboard Alienware bios , he's talking about Nvidia 880M Vbios only downloadable for TechInferno members.

Here's my results Windows 10 vs Windows 8.1 I also had a better performance with Win 10. Note that this is my best results for Win 8.1 and my first result for Win 10

Overall, Windows 10 performance is worse than Windows 8, which is worse than Windows 7. But, it also depends on what you are testing. No single OS is the best at everything all of the time, but overall Windows 7 still holds the performance crown and Windows 10 leaves too much to be desired. DX12 may change that for DX12-specific game and benchmark titles once they become common, but right now that is essentially irrelevant.

To have the best performance possible at everything you must have a multi-boot system.

From my experience, with AMD GCN cards, Windows 10 seems to perform even better than 7 across the board in all of my games with the latest drivers (15.7.1 from AMD's website - AMD seems to have done a wonderful job with those).

Nvidia seems to have some problems with their Windows 10 drivers. (Big-) Maxwell cards run alright and I'm even seeing a slight performance boost in most games on my Titan X, but older cards seem to be struggling. Kepler cards appear to be affected the most, as only certain driver branches don't have crippled Kepler performance (same with other windows versions, but there are more older drivers available there where performance isn't crippled - modded 353.82 Quadro drivers perform best for me on Kepler cards. Nvidia's drivers have taken a noticeable turn for the worse this past year). And then there's the dangerous issue with them seemingly killing screens on Alienware machines.

The biggest problem with Windows 8/8.1/10 is not so much what happens to graphics performance as much as how bad they screw up CPU (physics) performance. Windows 7 is still the overall performance king. NVIDIA is just screwing up left and right with garbage drivers and have been for at least 6 months now.

Mhm, I hear this is the case with benchmarks. Curious that it doesn't translate to my CPU bound games (various MMORPGs and RTS games) as they seem to run smoother and with higher minimum FPS on Windows 10 than even on Windows 7. Perhaps it has to do with the engine that's being used? Then again, perhaps it's just better optimized drivers/profiles that do the trick.
