    I purchased an m18x 6990m crossfire last year and everything was great until 3-4 months ago. Now it constantly overheats during gaming and gives me about 50 FPS on League of Legends--I was getting about 120 FPS on League of Legends last year. I'm running Windows 8 and Catalyst 12.10 and have the computer on a cooling stand. Could this be due to a GPU thermal problem and the GPU need to re-pasted. What should I do to fix my m18x?

    Well, if it's overheating, - you know what needs to be done. Open it, clean from dust, repaste, etc.

    Also, there is a search bar (type in key words) which will provide allllllllllllllllllll info on what steps to take, there are even pictures that have been added to the steps, good luck.

    What Aikimox said.

    I have a question though, regarding your issue. If you run GPU-Z do you get high temps on all GPU temp measures ( GPU Temperature and GPU Temps. #1 #2 #3) or on some of them and which? What temperatures are you getting (readout)?

    I am trying to figure out if the thermal pads on the vram are the culprit for overheating or the actual GPU chip thermal paste(...or all), based on your input, and on some other discussions I had with m18x R1 owners,

    Thank you

    You do not think if he knew that he wouldn't have asked us? Nice for you Aikimox to let him know that he has to clean / repaste his system.

    Juliant, that is why I said that. Now you made me feel guilt, lol. Alright I dug up a reliable link for the OP. http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...dge-cpu-heatsink-7970m-crossfire-upgrade.html OP don't mind the type of GPU/CPU, just use this as a guide for teardown, cleaning, and repasting. But if you need further help just search and if you can't find what you need I'll help steer you to someone who can.

    There is nothing to be guilty about mikecacho. We are here, thanks to the notebookreview.com moderators to help each other and givin' us that opportunity to make our life easier. I have learned so much from the members on this forum and I always try my best to do the same for others (if I know the subject).

    If was not for this forum, as of now:

    1. I would not have bought so many alienware's as of now :p;

    2. I would have bugged Dell / Alienware almost every second day with silly questions and troubleshooting about those wonderful machines;

    3. I would not have learned so many things.
