Perhaps some of you have read my issue with my LAN connection, or maybe not. Long story short, my download speed was lagging and my upload speed went from 7-10 mbps to .17 all while wired. When I unplugged it was a lot better, but still I would get cut off from time to time. I performed two clean installs and have FINALLY boiled it down to Avast. I did the last clean install last night and before any updates to Windows I tested the connection via speedtest and I was getting 60 up and 8 down. I installed Avast and turned it on and tested again, and was 45 up and .17 down.... I thought I had ruled this out before as I deactivated Avast and tested earlier on.
Now, does anyone have any idea what would be causing this???

Antivirus software is going to have an impact on performance by its very nature, but that seems a bit odd. Does Avast install a firewall along with antivirus? If so, can you disable it and re-run your speed test? Could also be how Avast is hooking into the OS, but I don't know much about their software so I can't say definitively.
I'd try uninstalling Avast and testing with another antivirus program. If you happen to live in the US and happen to use Comcast as your ISP, you can download Norton for free. I personally use Norton Internet Security and love it. You can also try Microsoft Security Essentials - I've heard mixed reviews about it. Some love it, some have had a lot of issues. -
