But am getting mixed answers. Some say go for the R2, some say there will not be a R3 and some say wait for the R3 to be announced.
Have a birthday coming up in 3 months and was given a opportunity to buy a M18 have half the cash and will get other half when i order the rig. Been looking at UK dell site once a week and well the prices have gone down.
Was thinking of getting base model with crossfire 7970m (1800£) but just saw that there is no more offer for the crossfire 7970m. Can get it with just one 7970m for 1500£. Now my question, would there be a point in ordering it with SLI 680m? or just order with one 680m and wait for the 780m to hit the market.
The SLI 680m compared to 7970m frossfire will set me back about 2250£. Single 680m costs the same as crossfire 7970m would have been.
Or as some say wait for Computex 2013 and then make my decision.?
2300-2500£ would be my limit

Well, if your birthday is 3 months away then leave it and see. However, once the new model is announced no doubt there will be a fair waiting list. Personally i would just look at offers every week (if in uk google, dell discount voucher) and go for the duel 680's. A single gpu in a m18x in my eyes is a waste of time. Just my opinion if course!

Well yes have an option to order now or wait and order then.
The single GPU option was more of an idea to upgrade later to 780m. Never owned a dual GPU system so going from 580m to 680m (single) is good for me and the option to go dual in the future even better.
Think if the 780m does come on a R3 then would not the price of SLI 780m be near 3000£ ? on the other hand just buying 780m-s would still need near 1000£ - the money you get for selling the 680m.
780m should be announced next week so i quess will have to keep looking for a good deal on the 680m-s
Why does this have to be so hard ...lol

I'm not sure how eager you are to have a new laptop, but I personally would upgrade the CPU and GPU in the M17xR3 in your signature. I believe it is compatible with the 680M and the 7970M.
The jump from 680M to 780M doesn't look to be substantial, and we don't know what AMD's got cooking, so a last-gen rig would more than suffice.
There's a big difference between being able to have a satisfactory gaming experience and benchmarking.
You could have more than a satisfactory gaming experience on your M17xR3 with a couple of upgrades.
If you're benchmarking, then yes, you will need 780M SLI and the newest 4xxx series CPU. -
It also depends on your budget. If you have the funds and time available to you I'd wait and see what comes next.

For those that already have 680M SLI, that's already a lot more powerful than a single 780M will ever be. In fact, it's unproven whether 780M SLI will overclock well enough to outperform an overclocked 680M SLI setup. It has better specs than 680M SLI, but it may end up not being more powerful in an overclocking/benching scenario. It probably will in time (with vBIOS tweaks) but that remains to be seen. I certainly hope it is a LOT more powerful for overclocking and benching. It will be sad a sad thing if it is not, but we can't count chickens before the eggs are hatched. -
Well said the budget was 2300-2500£. The M17x r3 i bought as my first and the only computer at the time died and i needed a computer fast. I bought my first AW the M17x r3 thinking it was like the R2 dual GPU ....well i was wrong lol.
The M17x R3 i will sell as the warranty will end next year and the problems i had with it ....well better jump ship.
Would be able to get 1000£ easy for the M17 r3 as most AW sold here is the same price as the top end rigs but are base model LOL. Looking at the 680 benchmarks in games sli should be enough for at least a year. And if i have the option and the 780m turns out to be better then going dual then staying single.
Well ill just wait for a better deal on a 7970m crossfire. If not then just wait for the end of next week when the 780m in announced and then make my decision -

I believe that the 680m is a great card with great drivers support. The 7970m is good if the budget is lower and will also perform great on gaming sessions.
Question about the M18x series.
