Damn, its a shame the A2000 is so dumpy. One-thousand less shading units than a 3060, likely only 4gb (MXM A formfactor), and 60watt draw. Even the existing one specced out on techpowerup is, at a performance level, equivalent to a 1060. And that one is rated up to 95watt draw, instead of 60watt. At least for MXM-A laptops (some of the 15" HP zbooks come to mind) it might be a decent bump, if they have the cooling and powerbrick to run it.

I'm just so curious about the A4500 and cost. I'm expecting MSRP in the neighborhood of 1-1.3K with how that thing will run and the current market, but let's hope I'm wrong.

You mentioned in your video putting the 113mm GTX 1080 in another PC, what laptop will it fit in? I have the m18xr2 and Precision M6700 both with GTX 980m, can the 1080 fit?

The 113mm 1080 that SSJ92 used is (if I'm not mistaken) the Aetina 1080. It is a plain straightup rectangle, one of the only 1080s released that is a MXM 3.1 Type B board, with no weird Clevo/Sager kickouts or Dell DGFF stuff. Aetina and Adlink are pretty much the only modern-day providers of true Type B formfactor cards, and IF you get your hands on a true Type B, it is pretty much compatible with nearly every laptop with an MXM slot (provided the vbios and outputs can be matched up).

The M6700 had an eDP panel option, I think, but that might have only been the M6800. With eDP it can be upgraded a lot, to 1060/1070 or further provided the cards are true Type B formfactor (Dell chassis is very cramped). If it has LVDS and the switchable graphics BIOS option, there is some sort of sorcery that can make them output to LVDS. But if it's LVDS without switchable graphics, its best option is a R9 M290x. I think vbios exist for that card that output LVDS, but I could be wrong. The Aetina 1080 would most likely fit, but getting additional power to it would be tricky, and it would most likely thermal-throttle because Dell only made 100w (max) capacity heatsinks for the M6700.

I think the M18x R2 was an eDP laptop through and through, because of SLI support. With the expanded chassis of the 18" line, I think the upgrade options are a lot more flexible as long as you can get power to (and cool) the card in question. The P4000 is great because its widely available and easy to keep cool. The P5000 or P5200 is closer to matching or eclipsing the 1070 and are both 100w cards with slower vram found in true Type B formfactor (but much more expensive than other options). Of course, the Turing-core Quadro RTX cards can be found in both true Type B form and in other forms, as well as some of the actual RTX line (Perfectron 2060, possibly others). Then, that Ampere card SSJ92 has been linking is also a possibility (A4500). The Aetina 1080 would of course fit, and I think you could modify a heatsink to cool it, but getting the 150w for it would take some soldering and rewiring to get the extra power.

Thanks for this info, this is great knowledge, I've been on the edge of my seat wanting to order this 1080 card but had too many doubts. It is comparable to the RTX 3000 in performance but to get it to work seems like too much. also it sat there too long without any one buying it, now there is another. I think I will buy another P4000 because it performs close to what I had GTX 970m SLI and the price is good too.

    1080 fits in AW 18.

Never tested in M18xR2 but @UltraGSM was supposed to.

A4500 will be expensive. RTX 3000 MSRP is $1,534 from Adlink, So I expect $2,000. Less would be nice.

M18xR2 uses LVDS, no eDP. We need to use Optimus to use any GPU newer than 980M.

As of right now we have no additional info on A4500.

"Unlike many mobile workstations, customers aren’t able to finely customize the specs of the GoBOXX SLM."

Seems to be all soldered components (BGA).

Soldered GPU? Thats really sad they do that. I'll just have to roast marshmallows with it then. I'll just let it mine crypto. My M18xR2 will have to wait
