I still can't decide which to go , you think backpack is convenience when you put at chairs etc..?

It is unfortunate that the Orion bags are amongst the very few options for the M18X IMHO.
To now hear that the messenger bag strap failed is not cool. I ride a motorcycle and that would make for an event to say the least. -
I am still trying to figure out the best option for bags.
I also ride a motorcycle so I need a backpack (dont trust messenger bags when riding down the freeway).
BUT, I also don't want an orion backpack just because of all the "I have an expensive laptop in my backpack... come mug me" decoration on it (I walk through some shady areas).
I almost got the toshiba one but it cannot carry much of anything else besides the laptop. -
Maybe an inexpensive "raincoat" could be fabricated from that thin parachute type of nylon material to cover it up so the only temptation for the thugs would be wondering what's underneath. It should be easy to put something together that would work. Something with elastic hemmed around the edge or a drawstring would work... sort of like a tortoise shell fit. -

...Has anyone looked at some of the camping style backpacks? Those don't seem to have great protection (usually due to being lighter with parachute type material), but are bigger. If I had time, I'd run to REI and see if they have larger backpacks. -
I might actually give the slappa stovepipe a shot. Its not the greatest looking, but it looks alright to me, seems to have some good space in it
-
I just ordered the Orion Backpack with a 10% coupon (-$12). It will be interesting to see what my ship date is given they are currently listed as out of stock.
-
-
Nothing really denotes an expensive laptop in the Orion backpack except for the alien head logo and the people watching have to know what it means. If you paint the logo over in black, I don't think anyone would even look twice at it.
-
It's the regular Everki. The Luna is a more high end bag.
I'd post pics but there are a bunch of the Everki back a few pages. I'm not the first person to get one. And when I say that I mean the bag, not the backpack. There are pics of both in the thread already, but don't stop at the backpack, that's not what you are asking about.
Lots of work to do before a big Mon presentation. -
The sleeve that I wanted is still out of stock. -

Hey guys, I was reading around trying to find a bag for my m18x that is coming through the mail in about a week. I had a really nice backpack from Swiss Gear that I know won't fit the new laptop, since my now retired m17x-R2 was an extremely tight fit in it. So I'm looking into getting a messenger type bag. I did a quick search on the forum for Timbuk2, which is the brand I'm looking at, but didn't find any comments or suggestions.
According to the specs on the site, and the ones posted here, the laptop measures: (W)17.17" (D)12.68" (H)2.09". The Timbuk2 D-Lux Racing Stripe messenger bag I'm looking at, which is size medium, fits devices up to: (W)17.90" and (D)10.20". It looks like it'll fit the width of the laptop, but not the depth. If I go with a large size messenger bag, it fits devices that are (W)19.69" and (D)11.81". Looks like it will still not fit depth wise, but it's a darn close fit. I really don't want to get the large bag, it looks huge. What do you guys think? Here is the link to the bag in question:
Timbuk2 Bags - D-Lux Laptop Messenger Racing Stripe - Ballistic Fabric (If you click the Dimensions tab above the description of the bag, it will show you the laptop measurements that fit inside the laptop compartment).
I plan to put the m18x in a sleeve, and then put it in the laptop compartment of the messenger bag. I think the most important thing is that if fits width wise. The depth doesn't really matter since I can still pull the flap over the laptop and close the bag.
Any suggestions are appreciated. I really like the styling of this bag and the fact that it can be adjusted, so it's snug against your back and not hanging off one shoulder, which would cause a lot of fatigue. -
Something the Orion backpacks need is a waist strap.
This much weight should not be distributed just on the shoulders. -

I'm getting messenger bag , anyone gonna stop me? and advise me to get a backpacks?
-
I'm also getting a messenger bag and I will not be persuaded otherwise! Hehehe.
I really like the Timbuk2 messenger bag. Sure it'll be heavy, but who cares!
Besides, now I'm more excited because I got a dell agent to expedite my order. My order is coming in on Tuesday! Originally it was scheduled for August 9, whooo! -

I'm using Oakley SI Messenger bag atm , it fit my m17x , but not m18x...just 1inch smaller..lol...planning to sell it when I get m18x messenger bag.
-
Maybe it's just the picture... but that bag looks massive and scary

I really love this bag , sadly it doesn't fit m18x

no idea which make me happy , haha. is there any way to enlarge the bag? (lol silly question)
-
That can be taken more than one way, but I'm sticking to the high road.
We won't go down the other one.
-
!!! However, I was looking around the Timbuk2 website and I found a similar messenger bag that had the dimensions necessary to carry this beast. Behold:
Timbuk2 Bags
The large sized messenger bag fits laptops with a "true" dimension of (W)18.5" and (D)12.7". The problem is the bag costs 170... I'll have to really think about this and probably measure up the laptop when it comes in on Tuesday. -
They don't make backpacks, but Pelican cases are like military grade. Have you seen them? I had a wheeled 1560 Pelican case and it's too big and bulky for the type of travel I do, but under different circumstances it would be excellent. They are in the same price range of the Timbuktu messenger bags. I had the 1560 and I am in the process of trading it for a 1510 with a friend (they are crossing paths with UPS Ground shipping somewhere right now). The 1560 is massive and does not fit in overhead storage compartments except for the largest aircraft. I can tell you that the foam interior that can be customized the way you want it is very cool. I'll have to get new foam if I decide to use it with the M18x, but I had customized the 1560 so it was tiered with two levels and had a ton of stuff in it for work, including a portable printer.

Here's a herculean "briefcase" that should hold the M18x and extra stuff...

It's great... like it a lot. Plenty of room for all my other stuff and it fits the M18x like a glove.

as I said...anyone who buys the messenger bag better know what they are getting into...every time you use it to carry the huge weight of the laptop creates large strain on the strap hooks...and as happened to me...one of the straps may break off sending your bag to the ground...
backpack = safest option for your laptop
if you get messenger, better make sure you hold onto the handle just in case it breaks... -
It'll put a strain on your back, too. It's OK for occasional short trips, but if you travel a lot and have to carry it all day it will be murder.
-
I know this just from carrying my old asus g53je which was 4kg...
Due to my exprience with flying around / traveling , backpack is the only way to go , and better buy a laptopt backpack bag that is made especialy for the size of laptop that you need.
This is one of the reasons I ordered the orion m18x backpack...
Why dont people just settle for the orion backpack m18x ? -
Just got a m18x orion bag pack for myself
Amazon had it for $85 was 3 new left on stock, 2 now gogogo

Just a question to anyone who has the Orion backpack... would/do you take it into a professional work setting or school setting without drawing attention? I know that it only has an alienhead on it (alien zippers also), but is it very noticeable, or does it look just like a normal backpack if you're not looking very hard at it? I just don't want to get stupid looks (or people asking me about what's inside) if I ever have to take this to classes in college.

Btw is it water resistance? -
I asked the same thing 20 posts ago , if the orion back pack is water proof , someone said it might be rain proof , but he wouldnt go swiming with it
dont forget there is a tiny hole on top of the backpack to slide in the earplug from ur headphones to ur mp3 player... im not sure how much of water resistant is it , but consider the quality of the product and the lack of perfect fit backpack out there for the m18x , i will go with the orion...
not to mantion u can always buy a plastic cover for the backpack for them rainy days... for like 3$ ? -

Rain proof would be fine , just worry about winter. You know those snow.

As promised, here is the SFBags 36-25:
That is my 5+ year old Spire Bags (still in perfect shape honestly). Dealing with the SFbags website wasnt good. Their custom fit charts simply have no information. I went directly to customer service to ask about 36-25 being the right fit. Then after ordering, they said they'd not have it for another week! I drew the line, if they dont state that on the website, it's their problem and they needed to adjust shipping on their side (as they had already billed me). They moved it up to Fedex home delivery and got it to me at 730a the day I demanded it be there, well done.
I carry the 18x and a Dell d630 plus a spectrophotometer as well as the case for the Altec Noise Cancellng Headphones. Its not for the faint of heart. I cannot recommend enough the as well as the 36-25.
If you're happy with my review, please give me some good feedback -
Which model number is your spire bag?
I may look into getting one of those if all else fails

Wont let me directly link to the , but you'll find it.
$249 but will last you for ten years and their warranty is bulletproof. It comes with a "Boot" but I can tell you the 18x isnt going to fit. -
Thanks for that.
I am actually in contact with them now (their headquarters are literally 5min from me).
They mentioned they may have a new boot soon that "may" fit the m18x.. my contact is checking with the owner now for details.
May be a week until I hear back.. but once I do I will update everyone else.

Hi all, I have been using the Lunar for couple of months now, extremely great, extremely spacious, and when its full it doesnt look full
Lunar Laptop Bag - Briefcase, fits up to 18.4" | 18.4" Laptop Bags | Everki
They have extremely great customer service which one of the handle (not the shoulder strap) ripped and i got a new one in 1 week after i contact their customer service..
anyway, I'm thinking to get a rolling laptop case since with the m18x plus the powerbrick, phone, wallet, mouse and some USB cable it weighs 9Kg. I can carry it for 2 hours straight but then I'm exhausted -_____-
Sadly, i have been searching for days and also reading this thread but i can't seem to find a rolling laptop bag that would fit m18x.. btw the Tumi just too expensive.. -
-
I am in contact with their local rep and she said that she will get back to me in a week (probably the end of this week) with exact dimensions etc..
She did say the backpack itself will definitely hold the m18x but that they may have a new "boot" (type of sleeve) which will hold the m18x soon.
She is checking with the owner as soon as he gets back into town about this
I will update everyone once she gets back in touch with me.
D. -
Looking forward to an update.
I think this backpack is perfect from what I can see on their site, it has a ton of features and plenty of room.
-
Agreed..... and they seem to last a long time as well so worth the investment.
Plus, if they do have a new "boot" which will hold the m18x even better as the boot comes free with the pack.
