after speaking with a woman who answered the phone for 35minutes, because she said Alienware is releasing a new bios in September for the Alienware 18. . I wanted to know what they have planned and asked to be switched to an actual Alienware tech support guy. She wanted $89.00 just to connect me, I argued I paid over $5,000 for a laptop, I'm not pAying for a phone call.
Supervisor got on the phone and finally he admitted , there will no new bios ever for the 18. The bios being worked on is for the 17.
So there goes the hope of them releasing another bios for us.

Good thing you didn't fork over your hard earned cash. Wow, so $89 is the going rate for them to lie to you over the phone.
-
Yeah, there will be no "bios update" coming in September. That is the same BS answer I got when I asked Dell to update their validated drivers for the 6990M since they were so archaic back in 2012. They said "sure, we should have an update out in the next month"
Nope.Mr. Fox likes this. -

How is it possible to kill a brand so fast?

Why don't you HP about their VoodooPC acquisition?Wasn't it supposed to be the ENVY? What about VooDooDNA? Or VooDoo Legacy? All HP did was turn VoodooPC into VooDooDoo.

Yeah, I remember that like it was yesterday. It was before I became a die hard Dell fanboy. I had a lot of interest in VoodooPC and I was an HP fanboy at that time. It was also about that same time my appreciation for HP ended, my contempt for them as company started, and I shifted to Dell for my portable beast needs to be met. I got my feet wet with a $4,000 XPS M1730. It was with excruciating horror that I watched HP destroy Rahul's creation. It was a swift and obvious public execution and I never understood what kind of sadistic purpose the unlikely acquisition of the fledgling boutique served.
Dell executed gracefully on a scenario that HP screwed up royally, but with HP failure should come as no surprise. In our case, Dell made the Alienware brand exponentially better than it was, or ever could have been on its own. I don't care what some folks think, Alienware is famous today first and foremost because of Dell and their financial horsepower, engineering excellence and resources. Alienware laptops were nothing but an ordinary Clevo with special paint before Dell took them under their wing. They were ordinary components with pretty face that got romped on by XPS. That was a way different Dell back then. They had some honchos with some muy grande mojo. The difference here today is we are dealing with a suicide rather than an execution. The former is worse than the latter IMHO.
Our problems started about half way through the life cycle of the M18xR2. Some shortsighted and underhanded folks thought it would be cute to poison the InsydeH20 BIOS with flash protection. The public outcry was heard, and they knew exactly what they were doing. Enthusiast @svl7 found a way to undo their self-inflicted head wound. After a couple of bumps in the road we were happy and carried on in joy as proud owners of the best-built, best-looking and most powerful laptops ever made in the history of computers. So, hell bent on orchestrating their own demise, they had to try harder to mess things up with the Haswell machines. And, fast-forward, here we are today... tragedy. A once great and mighty brand reduced to nothing... selling emasculated machines and offering absolutely NOTHING compelling to overclockers, performance enthusiasts and power users... catering to the mainstream.
Disaster always brings about change and the displaced seek shelter from the winds of adversity. It's a good day to own a Clevo and be on Brother @Prema's good side.Awhispersecho and pathfindercod like this.
