So with the delivery of a long-awaited GTX1080, my first ever desktop build stands at completion. It seems that my notebook gaming days are numbered so I am thinking about how to sell my AW18 while it's under warranty until May 2017.
I know that many on this forum have sold M18x's or AW18's before. May I get some input on the recommended platform to carry out such a transaction? Is the NBR marketplace a worthy substitute for eBay? Is eBay too risky for the seller? Is Craigslist gonna get me mugged?

NBR marketplace would probably be the safest, however from my experience we are really tight arses and won't give as much, or it will take forever (I've seen postings for months, my ebay items sell in under 10 days normally, and for more).
Ebay could net a faster sale, and possibly for a higher amount, but make sure you consider the ebay fees, and paypal fees which I usually estimate at around 10% of the sale amount. As you mentioned, it is riskier for the seller, the buyer has all the power. This sucks. I give feedback and many times don't get any in return. I've had negative feedback for no reason/random reasons, and even been scammed a couple times as a seller (although this last time I did get my money back from paypal a couple months later). I think I have sold all of my machines on ebay or in person to friends/family, never once any other way.
I have sold cars on craigslist, not mush else. I really don't go that route anymore as it's too risky IMO. I will not give out my phone number or email and it's painful to go through the listing communications and many buyers won't even try without a phone number listed (which as I said I will not do no matter what).TBoneSan and sponge_gto like this. -
Thanks, Porter. May I ask why you consider NBR marketplace the safest?

It's just my gut feeling. I think most people are here to either get help, give help, and just converse with like minded/like hobby individuals.
However I know some people are on ebay and Craigslist just to scam buyers or sellers.
That number on here I would guess is much much smaller. On top of that you can see thier posting history, talk to them openly in the forum, possibly even get feedback from other members that you might know and trust.
The cost of this is there is a much smaller pool of buyers on here. I've sold things to people all over the world who I would have never met on these forums.
If you go through PayPal you still get all the PayPal protections too.sponge_gto likes this. -

Just to chime in. I have sold 2 18's, listed both on eBay, sold both. You can get decent value on there, maybe a little more than on here. You could do what others have said and sell here and still use PayPal. My biggest concern with here other than maybe a little less money is just the fact that you never know how your relationships on here could be affected. Maybe the person buying doesn't think it's as nice as you said, or performs as well as it should. Whatever the case. Things like that can affect your relationships on here and I try to avoid that possibility as much as I can. Kind of like working for a family friend and then something goes wrong or whatever. I don't know. Just another thing to think about.

I sold my Alienware 18 by listing it on EBAY. I never listed on NBR and this is how I met Awhispersecho. We decided that we felt comfortable with each others history, feedback and reputation to talk in detail on NBR. I did the deal outside of Ebay since I was offering a discount to NBR members. I always price my items lower on forums since their is less fees and I rather hook up an enthusiast I know on a forum I visit versus a random stranger on ebay. I have sold 6 - 7 laptops on eBay and had no issues. I sold one Macbook on craiglist and traded that for Cash + Large screen LED LCD HDTV. I always prefer doing a deal on forums but sometimes the buyers are only on eBay. Also you will sell for more on ebay but fees will end up eating your profits. Just figure out the net you will make using the different avenues.Awhispersecho likes this.

Faiz!! Hey man. How is ya? I didn't even think about mentioning the fees. But yeah, that is an issue. I think they take 10% and then Paypal takes another 5% I believe. So yeah, you lose a bit on your sale price. I guess the only benefit you get on eBay is buyer/seller protection. I only ever had an issue with someone on eBay once and it was sorted out by eBay.

Yeah, the fees are brutal. PayPal is like 3% on top of the 10% premium charged by eBay. I recently had a pair of 880M for sale on eBay and just be aware that there are deadbeats and scammers as well. I actually sold them twice. The first person never paid, so I listed them again. The second buyer also did not pay. A couple of days later their account was deactivated. Then that loser had the cajones to file a claim against me with eBay for not delivering the GPUs and requested Buyer Protection assistance getting a refund, LOL. A refund of what? They never gave me a single red cent! I just got notice yesterday that eBay decided the dispute in my favor, so now I have to put the 880M cards up for sale again.Last edited: Jul 14, 2016Awhispersecho and faiz23 like this.

I am doing good and staying busy with work/family. I have barely had a chance to even game on my new/refurb beast and still deciding if I will strip it for parts or return it back to Dell...lol. How is the new machine doing for you and did dell straighten everything out? Let me know if I can help in anyway and enjoy your DUAL GPU MX BEAST!!Awhispersecho likes this.

It's all good man. And Mr. Fox, how dare you expect to actually get paid before shipping your items. In all seriousness tho, when things like that happen and then you have to wait for eBay or whoever to do what is already clearly obvious, it really ruins the experience and is frustrating as hell. Next thing you know it's a month later, you've posted an item multiple times and have nothing to show for it. Sucks. That is funny that he filed for buyer protection assistance though. What a mess.

My uncle passed away and his brother is selling his farm and shop. Some chinaman placed an offer and it was accepted. A year later he has not paid a single dime to the estate and has filed a caveat preventing us from selling the land. Now he is sueing my uncle and so far the judge is taking the chinamans side. Its like the estate was setup so lawyers could steal the land. Honestly i am going out of my head over this. If it wasnt so far away i would be there in a hesrtbeat.Mr. Fox likes this.

That's really horrible. I have not put the 880M cards back on eBay again because I don't have time to deal with the nonsense of crooks. I hope things end up getting sorted for your family without having to burn a lot of money on legal fees. I don't understand how anyone can claim a right to something they never paid for. That is theft in every sense of the word.Last edited: Jul 19, 2016

We paid good money to realtors and lawyers to make sure everything went by the book and then this happens. Ridiculous.

I might be interested in one 880m for my brothers laptop...how much are you willing to sell it for on the forum with no fees?
Tips for parting with my AW18
