"20% off graphics upgrades" (a pretty weak promo btw = 70 bucks) is offset by a 150 dollar increase in base price for the m18x $2149 from $1999. Ironically I was just about to order an m18X. Lame.

whats the problem? they are offering 8gb of ram and a btter HDD that normally cost more. chances are most people spending past 2.5k can afford $150 more.on top of that 6970cf is $320.

ahhh My fault. I didn't catch that. I've had 3 AW's and never been to a configurator that forced more ram and HDD. But I guess it isn't as bad as I thought it was. Still not a fan of forced "upgrades" as I always upgrade ram/HDD on my own...
I just was online a few hours earlier to order and saw the $1999 and then had gotten sidetracked and went back and saw the 2149.

Edit: Nevermind. Mods can remove. I went back and all 3 options are back up. I must be delusional.

Honestly, Dell definitely does nickle and dime you.

Regardless, right now Dell makes more compelling product than most other manufacturers (imo) so I deal with it.

    That's exactly how I feel.

While admittedly I am a bit of a Dell fanboy, until there is competition that I like, I will stick with Alienware, if I was picky about prices, I wouldn't be buying a $4000+ laptop :)

Totally agree! but, still, there are wide fields for improving... ;) Staring with a more transparent total quality control and assurance system a more local techs answer system and a little more listening to the loyal consumers... :D

Yup. The only reason I deviated from Dell and own the Sager model I just bought is because they put a screen with 42% gamut coverage as their "premium" display on the m14x.

Otherwise I would have had that baby. Take a look at the screen in my sig. 95% gamut MATTE screen? Yes please.

On the whole, I have a very difficult time deviating from Dell. My Latitude is a tank with one of the best keyboards I've ever used, and I love everything about Alienware.

No its a great deal, its like if you buy 1000 items of something and get one free, even though you only needed 10, but you save money!! That's a bargain, er, right?

Actually that 14inch screen on the m14x is the best 14inch screen on any laptop, most other 14in screens are crap

Envy Radiance would like a word with you! Best 14 inch screen out there. 80ish% gamut coverage, brighter than the surface of the sun, and fantastic contrast. All WLEDs should be that good.

I have a hard time believing a 42% gamut screen could be the best of anything, let alone best in the segment.

I will admit it had great contrast and black levels (which go hand in hand anyway), but the gamut coverage was just too low.

Technically speaking, it's not a great screen. The low gamut and good contrast balance, making it average.

Subjectively, I'm glad you love it. Most probably will.
