I currently can only use the laptop if I enable IGFX in the Video settings.

If I choose SG mode the laptop loads but as soon as the desktop shows up I get the blue screen (picture below showing a VIDEO TDR FAILURE message.

If I choose PEG mode it doesn’t even load the desktop, it just black screens.

I have disabled the Intel HD Graphics 4000, put the laptop into safe mode. When I’m safe mode the GTX980M is detected and I am able to install the driver. But as soon as the laptop loads up I get the Video TDR failure.

Any ideas on how to get my GTX980M to work again?

    Many Thanks

Definitely seems like a GPU failure unfortunately. It can sometimes relate to a driver issue so you could try a few different drivers to see if any thing changes.

Do you use modded drivers or do you have the special unlocked BIOS that gives 900 support?

I don’t have any modded drivers.

I was afraid it would be a GPU failure. I only bought the GPU about 2 years ago I think, but it was from eBay, I suppose you get what you pay for, lol. Cheap GPU.

980M's are hit and miss. The ones that come out of China seem to be more miss than hit.

I would try running a modded driver and see if anything changes. You'd need to download and mod the driver while running in iGFX and then switch to the 980M but in safe mode so you can use DDU to remove the old driver and then install the new one. Running in safe mode should stop the BSOD from happening during the driver install.
If it's still doing it with a modded driver then there's a pretty good chance that the card has some big problems.
