So both my 780m's are most likely goners. I can only create a stable environment with safe mode. Otherwise I get BSOD, driver crashes, momentary freezing every few minutes.
Looks like ebay has 780m's for $400 each
but they also have 880m's for the same. Anyone do that upgrade? Was it worth it?
My research tells me that dual 980m's arent worth the hassle and I couldn't find info on if a single 980m would work, but chances are that dual 780m's trump a single 980m anyway I guess.
And my last option is just to buy a new laptop $800 on a used AW18 can be found on ebay as well.
I don't know as much as ya'll though. What's the clear choice here?

Single 980M work, I can sell you a modified version with reinforced VRM array, previously used on a M15x and Alienware 18 (modifed heatsink).

Hi. We recommend a Nvidia GTX 970 or a 980 in your case.

Single 980 should outperform the 780 SLI. It does bench a significant amount higher

Edit: Disregard, I was looking at the 980 not the M -
980M is not more powerful than 780M SLI but it will be good upgrade in games that use tessalation much

If your going for new cards you may as well go for dual 980m. They do work on the m18xr2 properly with a toggle of the gfx and some mods.
@woodstackz could prolly sort you out with some cards as well. -

They work. Windows 10 for me it works 95% fine. I recently reinstalled my m18xr2 with windows 7 and windows 10 in a dual boot setup, 7 will be more stable as the original drivers and os are made for it but windows 10 does work well.It was buggier with older versions but it seems MS is patching up the issues quietly. As for bricking the only risk is using precisionx on an alienware m18x that will corrupt the edid and break the monitor. Beyond that windows 10 is fine though on my machine sometimes windows 10 wont boot the video drivers correctly on cold boot when moving to the login screen. Restart usually fixes it but I dont know if its just my laptop being tempermental or a general issue.
Video cards dead. Time to upgrade, but to what?
