Anyone have any idea what this is? It was being a small metal cover with a. Thermal pad. Looks like a mini cpu.

Intel video is integrated with the CPU so no. I believe it is actually the chipset.

It has a thermal pad in there behind the metal cover. What is it responsible for ?

Intel Platform Controller Hub. PCH. What used to be the southbridge.

Thermal pad is there to transfer heat from the chip to the metal plate on top. HM77 dissipates 4.1W, while the HM87 dissipates 2.7W.
