As the title says: "What clevo/sager chassis is the Alienware 18 based on?" Would like to see if there are other laptops based on that same clevo/sager chassis now that the 18 is dead. If so to see if they can serve as a replacement of the 18.

I don't think it is based on any clevo/sager model. But I am not sure at 100%.

It's not based on any Clevo chassis buddy. You're gonna have to get a AW18/m18x r2 and upgrade it.
    Or just get a Clevo.

AW use to use clevo chassis back in the 90's and early 2000's. They are their own and have been for sometime now.

Alienware laptops are made under contract for Alienware by Compal. Compal makes laptops for a number of big name brands. The Alienware machines are designed, owned and patented by Dell, so Compal could not sell you a "white box" Alienware even if they wanted to.

Back in the annals of history alienware did work with clevo chassis but we are talking many years ago, since owned by Dell they have not shared models.

Nope. There are not, unfortunately. There are hardly any options that are worth a crap any more. Seems they are trying super hard to kill off everything that was good and awesome so we can all enjoy cloned cookie-cutter trash boxes. Now that Alienware machines have apparently reached the end of their rope on upgrades, your only real option is a Clevo, at least until they jump into the cesspool with the other OEMs.

I hope so, but it's impossible to say. In the sense that you have to use pure UEFI and Windows 8 for SLI it will probably never be honest to goodness fixed. I could put up with that if the throttling gets fixed. Johnksss, Prema and svl7 have put a lot of time and effort into vBIOS mods to try to help us with that on the M18xR2 and we are getting nowhere. It might boil down to drivers, but I am not as optimistic as I was when we first started. It does not function correctly in the Alienware 18 either, so this could be the end of the line.

You know what would be the bomb would be if AW was able to work with clevo again and bring us back our hardcore enthusiast machines back.

That would be excellent. Their collaboration would make both better. It might even be a good thing if Mr. Dell would sell Alienware so they did not have to follow Dell's mainstream computer policies and practices.

At least SLI laptops didn't disappear overnight, xotic pc, metabox and origin pc seem to be the only builders with acceptable amounts of customisebility, bueaty and trust.
