As an owner of a M18xR2, i was wondering what parts are more likely to die than others. So what are the important ones to keep stock off? Or is it better to sell the beast now and move on to something else?

I would think it would be the mother board. I believe I read in another post where Mr. Fox advised sone one to get one since Dell was running low. Other than the MB everything else can be had easily. Screen, GPU, CPU, wireless card etc

If you sell it, just bear in mind that anything you buy is going to be inferior in more than one way and the dual GPU offerings are very slim pickings. The only machine you can buy that performs better is a P570WM. I absolutely love mine and have no regrets due to its performance superiority, but it's not equivalent to the M18xR2 in build quality, aesthetics or cooling.

Maybe things that commonly break while you're disassembling/assembling the laptop? The bezel around the keyboard, the connector for the hard drives, etc. Also, heatsinks eventually lose their ability to pull heat. I've never kept anything long enough for that to happen though. I built a pre-Dell M17 for my pops last year, and I had no issues finding parts for it. That bugger is OLD. I'd say by the time you absolutely cannot find parts for a laptop anymore, it is well beyond obsolete anyway.

As the Boss already mentioned, that R2 is absolute gold. Still able to upgrade to the newest Nvidia offerings...what's not to love? I've been shopping around for an R2 motherboard so I can convert. Otherwise 780M SLI is about where I'll bother topping out at, and 980M SLI is far more powerful than that setup. Sorry, I'm crying you guys a river right now.

From my experience with laptop parts for other brands you should never expect to find the parts you want all the time. What may be in good supply one month may be hard to find the next, motherboards are the hardest to locate over time so honestly if you feel that you may need a part down the line get it now while you still have the ability to pick a seller.
