Wonder who do you mean by that someone, lol?

    Let me dig around...

Dammn, I don't have any decent pics. Here you can find a couple.

BTW, I'm about to make a review of a HP Elitebook 8760w with IPS DreamColor and will include comparison photos of the HP and M18x side by side. Just need to grab a decent camera from a friend.

How about nixing the TactX keys and using the space they occupy (waste) for a full-sized desktop equivalent keyboard? If some folks have actually found a reason to use them, then an optional keyboard without TactX keys that takes up the full width.

I actually love the macro keys, have about dozen apps and key sequences tied to them and find them super handy. I'd rather keep those.

In fact, I have no problem with the size of the AW keyboards. After so many years using many 15.4"... I'm totally use to the size of its keys. In any case, the TactX can be placed above the Fn... on the the left...

But (always the 'but'), it will take the propossed space of the "19) A small LCD screen to view all temperatures, speeds and memory (GPU, CPU, RAM, SSD,...), integrated" ;-)

I suppose another option could be getting rid of the numeric keypad and expanding the number of tactx keys while still having a full sized keyboard.

The TactX keys don't hurt anything by being there, but having an option for a full-sized keyboard that does not sacrifice any space to them would be nice for folks that don't have any use for them. I would not be an advocate for eliminating them for the people that care, just looking for an option for those that don't.

What would be upsetting is getting rid of the numeric pad. This would no longer qualify as a full-sized keyboard by desktop replacement standards. I've used a numeric pad for years and would be totally lost without that. So would gamers that use it as a numeric pad and get double-duty using it for 8-2-4-6 navigation instead of W-S-A-D.

I don't even use my M18x's keyboard and I'd be against loosing the numeric pad. That would be ridiculous for a DTR of this size to not include one.

If more color options are made available (i.e. silver), I would hope that the new gunmetal black finish is kept instead of bringing back the true space black (plain jet black). It looks very stylish and I hope to get it back when I get the R2.

Definitely NO to ditching the numeric pad  these are not under 15" notebooks or macs.
As for the macro keys i find that they moved the position of the ESC and function keys slightly to the right which bothered me a little.

Ok I think the Mr.Fox formulation is great for everyone, because it mention an option end not a definitive replacement.

    I add this ;)
I think the Tactx button should be above the ESC & F keya and let the natural keyboard reach the edges.

    @Aikimox
Have you found the pics of your screen without the glass ?

An interesting idea might be to add some macro keys below the keyboard, maybe just under the space bar. Those would be extremely easy to reach with your thumb while your fingers are on the wasd keys. Quick twitch access.

huh, I have to take back my words about the screen.... I set the M18x and HP8760w (IPS 30-bit RGBLED) side by side and, heck... my anti-glare AW screen is way crispier and looks brighter than the best in the world panel. At this point, I'd rather keep my AW stock screen. Can't believe I'm actually saying this...

I would like Dellienware will do the same... (at least as an option 4 the users).

    Just forgot:
Why they can put 2,560 x 1,600-pixel in a 10.1-inch LCD Panel ( [FPDI] Samsung Unveils 2,560 x 1,600-pixel 10.1-inch LCD Panel -- Tech-On!) and they cannot give us this same image quality in a 18.4" laptop display panel?
My fellow scholars and I need it. Even that in bussiness you don't say what you are ready to pay... We are more than ready to pay the premium price for an optional configuration like this...

but If I remember too many people don't want higher resolution on laptop.

I let you lead the discussion with the antagonists ;)

Here we go ... this has frustrated me since day 1 and has been an issue in BOTH my m18xs ...

I want the cord which plugs into the adapter from the wall ... TO STAY IN THE ADAPTER ... that thing falls out SO easily. Its hardly in there at all ...

And while they are at it a magnetic lock on the back of the m18x wouldn't be bad either (to hold the cord in place) I haven't had too many issues with it falling out but due to the buldge in the cord right were it connects to the m18x ... sometimes if you are sliding the machine on a table it will get caught and yank itself out ...

So both those improvements would be nice !

Also, my dear Anentropik, too many people expressed their NEEDS of a higher resolution on a laptop... certainly more than in a 10.1 LCD panel that the industry is providing or going to provide...

Actually @ many institutes, universities, labs and editing and designing offices around the world we still use a lot of those antiques but wonderful Inspiron 8600 machines; still working, kicking and fighting with their 1920x1280 15" matte display panel...

We use (and love) them just because of the resolution. Ask the users of the AW 17xR2 or the Precision M6400 about their 17" displays if the are ready to go happily to a lesser resolution...

When somebody needs to surf or read some papers with little fonts, etc. there is always the option of the Crtl with the mouse scroll-whell to zoom in and out as desired...

Anyone, according to her/his particular needs, can always use a lesser resolution when the display panel can provide it because it have the highest 'on the pocket'... But nobody can step up to a higher resolution from a lesser one... Simply as that. ;)

When the option of a better (higher) resolution display screen was offered by the manufacturers, most of the consumers choose to buy the highest possible... Dell's / AW knows that fact quite well...

Just to throw the proverbial cat amongst the pigeons, I spoke to one of my Dell sources the other day and was told that there would be an M18x revision in or around Decemeber time, so not long at all. This kind of coincides with the 15% discount codes off Alienware systems atm so that Dell can clear stock of R1's......

Of course, some may see this statement as rumour - mongering but I know that my information has been pretty reliable thus far in terms of other additions etc such as 580m sli and 6990 crossfire being available - (I posted back then and the info I was given was more or less spot on).

So, I hope that all of these very valid points on this thread have been taken into account in time for the new revision, if indeed it goes ahead as per when I have been told it will do.

    Hi Anentropik!

With respect to the memory sticks, can we suggest that they all will be accessible from below, without having to remove the keyboard?

And since it can get pretty hot at the memories... can we suggest, perhaps, a set of optional customizable (HyperX?) memories with their own fan / cooler system... ( in case they do not agree to develop 4 us a docking station with an integrated cooler... high @ the back and very-very-very low @ the front)?

I'm just playing with my imagination... ( and whishes 4 Dell's santa...) ;)

Thank you for your ideas ;)

One part is already set in the OP:
    12) Easy way to access component (RAM(4 Slots), GPU, CPU)
    22) Better RAM options, like 4x4Gb 2133Mhz @ 9-9-9-27

And I think if there is a need to cool the ram (in normal use) they will automatically take care, no ? You really think I should add it ?

    Thanks Anentropik,

Well, memories use to build up a lot of hot... and down there (or as actually, behind the keyboard), there is no air intake or any air flow dedicated to extract that significant hot... So it comes to my 'criminal' mind the potentials of a dedicated fan or, at least, an air intake...

Another idea that come to my mind is related to the brighteness control (reading what Joker write @ http://forum.notebookreview.com/8054385-post318.html regarding the "Lack of brightness control: This is EXTREMELY annoying for me because in the evening, I like to turn down the brightness but can't." )

Since my first old beloved Inspiron I'm too used to decrease the brighteness @ my evenings and nights, particularly when reading works of my students. ;)

A Fn key Screen Off button.

I don't need a function key for my bloody camera, MSMC, Mute (got one in the control strip already...) or alien FX, but i really would like on/off monitor key, espcially if possibly gaming at work ;) and need to turn the screen off, without closing the lappy :)...

Also follow Asus and give us a Fn Calculator key on the numpad enter, so helpful :)

Also If anyone knows how to rebind function keys I'd be more that happy to learn it??
