I have a chance to buy an M18x R2 from a guy locally. The only known details so far are that it has a 3940xm cpu and 32gb ram, and also blu ray player. I was first told it had a 675m gpu but not sure yet as the guy is completely illiterate with computers. Tried walking him thru the device manager, but no luck. But I do know it works fine and is in great shape. What do you think it's worth?

If it has 675Ms...I wouldn't pay more than 1000 with all of extras, because the 675m is a ticking time bomb and notoriously unreliable chip, not to mention... slow when compared to a single 7970M or 680M (675M SLI = 1 7970M or 680M)

Yes, 680M SLI is still a very powerful config. You won't max out games, but you can run them on high for sure.

Even a single 680M is still a very strong card. No it isn't top of the line, but it is still a very strong performer

Be careful going by the service tag. I’ve sold tons of laptops where I upgraded or downgraded parts. Most times I make more money parting them out unfortunately, rather than selling as one complete unit (which I would prefer). Just make sure you know what you’re getting!

I have a very similar latop (see sig). I can play whatever (as long as it supports SLI) and it's not an issue at all. Two games I have found that don't like SLI are The Witcher 3 and ARK. I don't really play those games so it's not an issue.

Great find! Be sure to update this thread after you receive it. I paid $1200 for mine without the extreme processor back in September. I think you are getting a fantastic deal. :D

And I appreciate all of you guys feedback! The reason I love this forum. I'm sure it will be a huge jump over my M17x R2! As you guys may have known, my M17 had the 940xm cpu and had an 8970m working for a bit but even with a modified heat sink, hwinfo still showed temp numbers higher than I'd think it should. And even when temps were no where near high enough, I'd keep getting random total system shutoffs as if there were no battery installed and unplugged from power. Then after awhile the screen would go black when playing videos. Shortly after, the m17 stopped booting up! Guess the card died??? Had to put a 5870 back in it. And you all know the performance those give.... Not much for newer games. So hopefully this M18xR2 will be a great improvement over my m17 and a bit more room for better graphics cards down the road if needed. Sucks I bought a 330w psu for my m17 thinking that was the issue with my 8970 and never did get the chance to mod that psu to work. But I guess I'll have an xtra 330w now if ever needed!

I even considered to sell my 17 off add more cash and get the M18x R2 but the 980M SLI thread's progress stopped and new problems came. There's lot of pain to get 980M SLI work properly (old drivers, GPU vBIOS flashing) plus they won't OC either, even the 780M SLI throttles with new drivers, I feel sad often when this comes to my mind......seems like we all need to move along Dell made this brand to die, Clevo's Phoenix looks very better now.

I am looking for an used m18 r2, I live In Spain, the problem is that here now they make heavy discounts for the less powered versions of the msi gt 80 with 2 graphics 970m and cpu 5700 and of course it would be a new one, so there is no reason to pay a similar price for a second hand laptop, anyway if I find a good price for a r2 wich is well preserved I would go for it.

    Hi Guys,
need you guys honest openion on below options i got for a gaming lap.

    Option 1:
    M18XR2 3920xm , NVIDIA GTX880m , 250gb SSD (WINDOWS 8), 1TB WD Blue HDD,16GB 1600mhz RAM
    BlueRay Rom.
    Asking price USD 890

    Option 2:
    MSI GX70 3CC Destroyer
    AMD A10 Processor, 8GB DDR3, R9 M290x 2GB GDDR5 VGA
    1TB 7400RPM HDD, DVDRW,
    Asking Price USD 830

M18XR2 is used but seems good cosmatically. MST still has like 6 months warranty remaining.
What would be the best bet.
I know GTX880 is way ahead compared to R9 ...

forget the fact the 880M is faster, the 3920XM will absolutely demolish the AMD A10 with ease. It's ridiculous how weak AMD processors are

Yes agreed. And worst case ... if something goes wrong in M18x R2 its always possible to replace the bad component and make the machine work?

Sorry for dumb questions as this will be the first time im thinking of getting an Alienware.
All the previous laptops i have used onboard everything making it impractical to repair.
